  1. Miller Puckette

    Miller Puckette received his B.S. in mathematics from MIT in 1980. As an undergraduate he was the top scorer in the 1979-1980 William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition. He was awarded Putnam and NSF fellowships for graduate study at Harvard, where he finished his Ph.D. in 1986. From 1979 through 1986 Puckette also studied computer music at the MIT Media Lab, specializing in real-time techniques for live music performance.

    Susan Kempter is an American violin teacher and prominent Suzuki teacher trainer who specializes in applying interdisciplinary research to music pedagogy. She is an active promoter of teaching students to play musical instruments with both physical as well as musical demands in mind, so that they can play their instruments without the pain and repetitive stress injuries which are common in the profession. She was influenced by the teaching of Paul Rolland.

    Robert Orledge is a leading scholar of early twentieth century French music. He was born in Bath, Somerset on 5 January 1948 and educated at the City of Bath Boys' School (1958-65) and at Clare College, Cambridge (1965-71) where he gained a BA (Hons) Music degree in 1968 and an MA in 1972. He was awarded a Ph.D. for his thesis: A Study of the Composer Charles Koechlin (1867-1950) in May 1973.

    Shulamit Ran Shulamit Ran , Andrew MacLeish Distinguished Service Professor of Music, is a composer with special interest in the performance and study of contemporary music. She has served as Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Ran's Symphony earned the 1991 Pulitzer Prize in Music and the 1992 Kennedy Center Friedheim Award.

While in Germany in the mid-seventies she received a commission from the sculptor Helfried Hagenberg to compose music to be played on a sculpture he had created from twenty-seven triangles. The sound she discovered during the course of completing this commission led her to research and eventually develop the alemba, a keyboard percussion instrument.

  35. Richard J. Rulli

    Dr. Rulli's dissertation explored the little known world of Hollywood trumpet playing through interviews with eight of the top trumpeters in the business. He is an active recitalist and chamber musician, and in demand for performances and master classes regionally and nationally.     Gordon Burnett is in his sixth year as conductor of the University of Waterloo Choir. He maintains a busy musical life. A former member of the Elmer Iseler Singers, Elora Festival Singers and Tefelmusik Chamber Choir, he presently sings with Tactus Vocal Ensemble, a professional octet specializing in Renaissance music.   38. Patrick Fortney

    Patrick Fortney is director bands at Peru State College, conducting both the Concert and Jazz Bands. Other teaching responsibilities include conducting, applied lessons, instrumental music methods, music appreciation, and world music. In addition to his duties at PSC, Fortney is musical director and conductor of the Lincoln Community Concert Band in residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

    Robert Bean is Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at IPFW, a position he assumed in July, 2002. He holds the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from Mississippi State University and Doctor of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Mississippi where he was a Carnegie Foundation Fellow. Dr. Bean has held positions at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and at the University of Central Arkansas.

  40. Ronald F. Cole

    Ronald F. Cole , Professor Emeritus Dr. Cole has been a member of the Music Faculty at the University of Southern Maine and its predecessor institutions since 1963. He served as Chair of the Department of Music from 1977-1983, 1988-1994, 1996-2001, and as Acting Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1990. Since his retirement as a full-time faculty member in 2001, he has taught several courses on a part-time basis.
