    Mary, Duchess of Burgundy, called Mary the Rich (February 13, 1457 - March 27, 1482), Duchess of Burgundy, was the only child of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Isabella of Bourbon. Her mother died in 1465, but Mary was on very good terms with her step-mother Margaret of York, whom Charles married in 1468.

    Robert I Capet (1011 - March 21 1076) was duke of Burgundy between 1032 to his death. Robert was son of King Robert II of France and brother of Henry I. In 1025, with the death of his eldest brother Hugh Magnus, he and Henry rebelled against their father and defeated him, forcing him back to Paris. In 1031, after the death of his father the king, Robert participated in a rebellion against his brother, in which he was supported by his mother, Queen Constance d'Arles.

Eudes was closely related to the French royal family, the Capetians. His father was heir to a cadet branch (the House of Burgundy) of the Capetian dynasty. The rule of Hugh III marked the ending of a period of relative peace in the duchy of Burgundy. Hugh was a belligerent man and soon was involved in conflicts against king Louis VII of France over their borders.

    Philip I of Burgundy, also known as Philip of Rouvres (1346 - November 21 1361) was Duke of Burgundy from 1349 until his death. Philip was the only son of Philip of Burgundy, heir of Duchy of Burgundy, and Joanna, countess of Auvergne and Boulogne. He succeeded his grandfather when he was only three years old. His deceased father was the only child of Duke Eudes IV and of Jeanne III, Countess of Burgundy and Artois.

  18. Claus Sluter

    Claus Sluter (born around 1350 in Haarlem; died in 1405 or 1406) was a sculptor of Dutch origin. Sluter probably worked in Brussels before moving to the city of Dijon, where from 1385 to 1389 he was the assistant of Jean de Marville, Court Sculptor to Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. From 1389 to his death he was Court Sculptor himself. He was succeeded by his nephew Claus de Werve.

Hugh retired to a monastery, took vows as a monk and later became abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny.
