    Anthony Manuel Rodrigues Aristar is the founder of the LINGUIST List, the most important linguistic resource on the web. He was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1948, received his BA from the University of Melbourne in Australia, his AM from the University of Chicago, and his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He is now co-director of the Institute for Language and Information Technology at Eastern Michigan University, where he is a professor of linguistics.

    John Hieftje (pronounced "HEEFT-yeh") is the current mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Hieftje began his political career in 1999, when he was elected to the city council for Ann Arbor's 1st Ward as a Democrat. He was first elected to the post of Mayor in 2000, and was re-elected in 2002, 2004 and 2006.     Jeff Parker (born January 3, 1974) is an American novelist and short story writer. His novel "Ovenman" will be published in 2007 by the book division of the literary journal Tin House. Parker received praise from within the literary community for his hypertext story "A Long Wild Smile" which has appeared in numerous online journals. Parker grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, and received a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida.

    Clayton Eshleman is an American poet, translator, and editor. Eshleman has been translating since the early 1960's. He is the recipient (with José Rubia Barcia) of the National Book Award in 1979 for his co-translation of César Vallejo's "Complete Posthumous Poetry". He has also translated books by Aimé Césaire (with Annette Smith), Pablo Neruda, Antonin Artaud, Vladimir Holan, Michel Deguy and Bernard Bador.

    Earl Antoine Boykins (born June 2 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association. He played collegiately at Eastern Michigan University from 1995 to 1998. He earned All-Mid-American Conference first team honors in his junior and senior year. During his senior year, Earl was second in the NCAA with 26.8 ppg. He holds the career record for assists at his alma mater.

    George "The Iceman" Gervin (born April 27, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan) is a retired American professional basketball player; a shooting guard for the American Basketball Association's (ABA) Virginia Squires and San Antonio Spurs and the National Basketball Association's (NBA) San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. Gervin averaged at least 14 points in all 14 of his ABA and NBA seasons, and finished with an NBA career average of 26.2 points per game.

  16. Jeff Genyk

    Jeff Genyk (August 22, 1960) is the head football coach at Eastern Michigan University. In 2004, his team went 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference, and posted high offensive numbers. From 1994 to 2003, he served as an assistant football coach at Northwestern University. The Wildcats won three Big Ten championships during that time. He has also coached at Grand Rapids Community College. From 1978 to 1981, he was the starting quarterback at Bowling Green State University.

    Ron Westrum is an American sociologist. Born in Chicago in 1945, Westrum studied at Harvard University and the University of Chicago.     Derrick Jonathon Dial (born December 20 1975 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American professional basketball player who played in the NBA. Dial graduated from Cass Technical High School. Dial played for Eastern Michigan University before being drafted in the second round by the NBA's San Antonio Spurs in 1998. Dial played for the Spurs until 2001. After that he played for the Toronto Raptors for the 2001-02 season and then the Orlando Magic for the 2003-04 season.
