  1. Denis Diderot

    Denis Diderot was a French philosopher and writer. He was a prominent figure in the Enlightenment, and editor-in-chief of the famous "Encyclopédie". Diderot also contributed to literature, notably with "Jacques le fataliste et son maître" (Jacques the Fatalist and His Master), which emulated Laurence Sterne in challenging conventions regarding novels, their structure and content, while also examining philosophical ideas about free will.

  2. Peter N. Kirstein

    Peter N. Kirstein, Ph.D. is a professor of history at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his doctorate at Saint Louis University. Kirstein is also a liberal known for his anti-war views and animate lectures, presenting himself as a pacifist with his motto, “Resist War. Demand Academic Freedom. Defend the Vulnerable.” He gained notoriety for denouncing a military cadet a little over a year after the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks.

  3. Howard Wolpe

    Howard Wolpe , a former seven-term Member of Congress and former Presidential Special Envoy to Africa's Great Lakes Region, is also Director of the Center's Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity. For ten of his fourteen years in the Congress, Wolpe chaired the Subcommittee on Africa of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

  4. Buie Seawell

    Buie Seawell is a professor at the University of Denver, attorney, and former Colorado Democratic Party figure. He was born in North Carolina, the son of the state's former Attorney General, Malcolm Buie Seawell. Buie Seawell earned a bachelor's degree from Davidson University and a master's degree in Theology from Richmond, Virginia's Union Seminary, after which he served as a Presbyterian minister in Alabama and North Carolina.

  7. Harold W. Attridge

    Harold W. Attridge has been the Dean of the Yale Divinity School since 2002. His educational background includes a A.B. from Boston College, a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. from Harvard. He was a fellow of the Jesus Seminar.

    Ken Gornstein has served since September 2005 as director of communications at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He directs university publications, university photography, Brandeis University Magazine and the design and content components of the university Web site. Prior to arriving at Brandeis, he worked for 14 years in various capacities in the Office of University Relations at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.

    Capers W. McDonald , President and Chief Executive Officer of BioReliance Corporation since 1992, graduated from Duke University in 1974 with a Bachelors degree in engineering. After moving on to earn a Masters degree in engineering from MIT (1976), an MBA from Harvard Business School (1983), and establishing himself as a successful corporate leader, community member and family man, McDonald proudly admits, "I still bleed Duke Blue after all these years."
