1. John W. Gardner

    John William Gardner, President of the Carnegie Corporation, Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under President Lyndon Johnson, was subsequently the founder of two influential national U.S. organizations, Common Cause and Independent Sector, as well as the author of numerous books on improving leadership in American society and other subjects. Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964.

    Michael was the Founder of Experience Corps Bay Area in 1999. Started in 1995 as a pilot project in five cities, Experience Corps has grown to include more than 2,000 members in 20 cities across the country. As the leading model in outcomes-based literacy service by older adults, Experience Corps has a strong base of knowledge in the field of education and the program understands the means and messages needed to tap the time, talent, and experience of people over 55.

  5. Star Bressler

    Star Bressler has been the Experience Corps Field Manager since April 2006. Prior to managing the Experience Corps Program at 10 schools citywide, Star served as an Americorps VISTA as the EC Volunteer Coordinator in the Sunset Neighborhood. Star previously taught outdoor education for at-risk and adjudicated youth with Outward Bound. She attended the State University of New York at Geneseo with a major in Psychology and a minor in Art.

  6. Jones Anne Watts

    Anne Watts CBE was appointed in July 2000. Her extensive career in equality and diversity spans the private, voluntary and public sectors. Anne has just completed an eight year term for the Open University Council as Chair of their Membership Committee. She is presently working on the development of the Commission on Equality and Human Rights and supporting Sir Nigel Crisp at the NHS on his Independent Panel on Race.

    Michelle Hynes is a Vice President of Civic Ventures and Director for Experience Corps. Over the past 16 years, she has been a leader in efforts to increase children’s academic achievement, engage the public in improving public schools, and create stronger communities.

  9. Sarah Priestman

    Sarah Priestman , is Communications Director for Experience Corps. Most recently, Priestman worked as communications manager for Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, an award-winning, cross-generational performance company and learning institution headed by MacArthur "genius grant" winner Liz Lerman.

  10. Maureen K. Eccleston

    Maureen K. Eccleston is an Experience Corps Program Associate with a background in national and community service and youth development. Prior to coming to Experience Corps, Maureen served as an AmeriCorps member with both AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps and AmeriCorps*VISTA, serving communities in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Florida, and the District of Columbia.

  11. Rana Suliman

    Rana Suliman is an Experience Corps Program Manager with a background in volunteer development and aging issues. Most recently she served as an Education & Training Associate with Health Assistance Partnership, a project of Families USA, where she worked intensively on building and enhancing volunteer programs within the SHIP (State Health Insurance and Assistance Program) network.

  12. Tom Munnecke

    Tom Munnecke is a veteran software designer, network agitator and creative thinker. He spent much of his 30 year-year software career as one of the lead architects for two large hospital information systems – the Veteran's Administration's VistA program and the Pentagon's CHCS. VistA was on the forefront of open-source systems, and is evolving into a widely used open-source hospital information system called World Vista .

  13. Amy Zandarski-Pica

    Amy Zandarski-Pica is an Associate Director of Experience Corps with expertise in building the capacities of individuals and communities through direct service and advocacy. Prior to joining the Experience Corps staff, Zandarski-Pica served for six years as the Program Coordinator for the Georgetown Ministry Center in Washington, D.C., which engages homeless individuals and helps transition them from the street to housing.

  14. Latia Bowles

    Latia Bowles is the Office Manager at Experience Corps. Prior to joining the staff, she worked with the medicine residency program at the Washington Hospital Center. A master of multi-tasking, Bowles worked full time while maintaining a full course load in college, serving as class president, completing a field study at the Washington Hospital Center, and becoming a new mother.

  15. Emily Gillingham

    Emily Gillingham is an Associate Program Director at Civic Ventures and works on the Breakthrough Awards program. Emily began her Civic Ventures career in 2000 as the first Program Officer for Experience Corps, where she helped to develop the program's network and infrastructure. Emily has also served as the Development Officer at Openhouse, a housing and service developer for gay and lesbian seniors, and began her nonprofit career at Habitat for Humanity in Milwaukee.
