- Lodewyk van Berken
Lodewyk van Berken was a mid- to late-15th century Flemish jeweller and diamond cutter, renowned in the industry for inventing the scaif. The device revolutionized the diamond cutting industry and contributed to increased popularity of diamonds. Van Berken was born into a Jewish family in Bruges. His place of work was in Antwerp, where in 1456 he invented the scaif, a polishing wheel infused with a mixture of olive oil and diamond dust.

Joachim Beuckelaer (1533-1574) was a Flemish painter. A native of Antwerp, he studied under his uncle, Pieter Aertsen. Many of his paintings contain scenes of kitchen and markets, with religious allusions in the background. His "Four Elements" series (as of 2004, in the National Gallery, London) exemplifies this theme on a large scale. "Water", for example, shows a fish market selling twelve kinds of fish, representing the twelve disciples of Jesus.

The Belgian philosopher Leo Apostel (Antwerp, 4 September 1925 - Ghent, 10 August 1995) studied with Baron Chaim Perelman, Rudolf Carnap and Jean Piaget. He promoted at the ULB in Brussels, lectured logic and philosophy of science at the Ghent University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In his so-called "natural philosophy" he worked in his beliefs as freemason.
