  1. Daniel Vettori

    Daniel Luca Vettori (born 27 January 1979, Auckland, New Zealand), but brought up in Hamilton attending St Paul's Collegiate School, is a cricketer who plays Test cricket for New Zealand. He is the youngest player to have represented New Zealand in Test cricket, having made his debut in 1996/1997 at the age of 18. Vettori is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner, but he is known for his flight and guile rather than prodigious turn or pinpoint accuracy.

  2. Hamilton New Zealand Temple

    The Hamilton New Zealand Temple is the 13th constructed and 11th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located just outside the city of Hamilton, New Zealand it was built with a modern single-spire design very similar to the Bern Switzerland Temple. The building of an LDS temple in New Zealand was announced by David O. McKay, the ninth president of the LDS Church, on February 17, 1955.

    Simon Travaglia is best known as the author of the Bastard Operator From Hell stories, about a rogue system administrator. He presently works at Waikato University, Hamilton, New Zealand as ITS Infrastructure Manager.

  4. Michael Redman

    Michael Redman is the former mayor of Hamilton, New Zealand. He resigned his position to take up the job of Hamilton City Council CEO in May 2007. His replacement was deputy mayor and former Member of Parliament Bob Simcock. Michael Redman became Hamilton’s youngest-ever Mayor when he was elected in October 2004 aged 38. He received more than 19,000 votes, nearly 12,500 than more than runner up Martin Elliott.

  5. Bob Simcock

    Robert (Bob) Simcock (1947 -) is the mayor of Hamilton, New Zealand. His appointment is a temporary one until Local Government elections can be held in October 2007. His appointment follows local media speculation that he was likely to take up the mayoralty after Michael Redman's shock resignation from the position. He had been Deputy Mayor of Hamilton since October 2004. Prior to this, he was an MP from 1996 to 2002, representing the National Party.

  6. Warren Gatland

    Warren David Gatland (born 17 September 1963 in Hamilton, New Zealand and educated at Hamilton Boys' High School and Waikato University) is a former All Black and the current Coach of the Waikato Air New Zealand Cup team. Gatland's first game as an All Black was in 1988, when he is said to have introduced to their training sessions a part Australian Rules, part Gaelic football game which was well received by the other players.

  7. Craig Baird

    Craig Baird is a race car driver born in Hamilton, New Zealand on 22 July 1970. Baird is a very successul driver in his homeland, winning three consecutive New Zealand Formula Atlantic championship titles (1990-1992), and then four consecutive New Zealand Touring Car Championship titles (1993-1996). Since then Baird has raced in Australian Supertouring Cars (1997), as well as for the Ford team in the British Touring Car Championship (1998).

  8. Paul Martin

    Paul 'The Axeman' Martin is a DJ on the New Zealand rock music radio station called The Rock. It began in Hamilton and later moved to Auckland. Over the years the station has been networked around New Zealand. The station broadcasts the best rock music from "the '80s, '90s and now". Paul is one of The Rock's longest serving jocks, presenting, programming and producing his hugely successful weekly metal show The Axe Attack on the Rock since 1992.

  9. Howden Ganley

    James Howden Ganley (born December 24, 1941 in Hamilton) is a former racing driver from New Zealand. He participated in 41 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on March 6, 1971, scoring a total of 10 championship points. He also participated in numerous non-Championship Formula One races.

  10. Chanel Cole

    Chanel Cole (born Chanel Cole Whalley on 13 November 1977 in Hamilton, New Zealand) is a musician from Bega, New South Wales. She is a member of the Australian trip hop group Spook. Chanel's fame grew largely from her appearance as a finalist in the second season of Australian Idol (2004). She was eliminated from the competition on 25 October having reached fifth place.

  11. Jeremy Paul

    Jeremy Paul (born 14 March 1977 in Hamilton, New Zealand) plays hooker for the Australian national rugby union team. At the end of 2005, Paul had been capped 63 times for Australia and was awarded the John Eales Medal, receiving 194 votes from his teammates. <sup></sup> He ruptured a tendon during the Wallabies defeat in South Africa and will have to undergoe surgery, forcing him to miss the European tour.

  12. Malvina Major

    Dame Malvina Major DBE (b. 28 January, 1943), was born in Hamilton, New Zealand into a large musical family. As a child she performed at various concerts, singing mainly country and western pop and music from the shows. She received her first classical training in 1955, from Sister Mary Magdalen at Ngaruawahia, north of Hamilton. Sister Febronie continued with her voice training and Sister Liguori gave her piano tuition.

  13. Josh Sole

    Josh Sole (born 15 Feb 1980 in Hamilton, New Zealand) is an Italian rugby player, currently playing for Viadana in the Super 10 club competition. He has also been capped for the Italian national team, making his debut in 2005 against Argentina. His usual position is as a number 8.

  14. Nick Horsley

    Nicholas Keith Woodward Horsley (b. 22 September, 1980) in Hamilton. He is a New Zealand cricketer who played in the 2000 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka and he also plays for the Northern Districts Knights in the State Championship and in the State Shield.

  15. Frank Sargeson

    Frank Sargeson (21 March 1903 - 1 March 1982) was the pen name of Norris Frank Davey. He is considered one of New Zealand's foremost short story writers. Like Katherine Mansfield, Sargeson helped to put New Zealand literature on the world map. Born in Hamilton, Sargeson has been credited with introducing New Zealand English into short stories. His technique was to write the story without mentioning the setting.

    David Smail (born May 20, 1970) is a professional golfer. He was born in and resides in Hamilton, New Zealand. He won the New Zealand Open in 2001. He has won five titles in Japan Golf Tour.

  17. John Mills

    John Ernest 'Jackie' Mills (born September 3, 1905, Dunedin, Otago, died December 11, 1972, Hamilton, Waikato) was a New Zealand cricketer who played in seven Tests from 1930 to 1933.

  18. Guy Doleman

    Guy Doleman (b. November 22 1923, Hamilton, New Zealand - d. January 30 1996, Los Angeles) was an New Zealander actor. He is perhaps best known from his role as Count Lippe in the 1965 James Bond film "Thunderball". Guy Doleman died of cancer in 1996 in Los Angeles, aged 72.

  20. Judith Collins

    Judith Anne Collins (24 February 1959 -) is a New Zealand politician. She is a member of the National Party. Collins was born in Hamilton. In 1977, she studied at Canterbury University, but switched to Auckland University in 1979. From Auckland, she obtained first an LLB and then a LLM. After leaving university, she began work as a lawyer, specialising in employment, property, commercial, and tax law.

  21. Grant Thomas

    Grant Thomas was the MP for Hamilton West from 1990-1993, and a Hamilton City Councillor from 1995 - including as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Thomas was educated at Southwell School and Hamilton Boys' High School. In the 1990 election Thomas stood for the National Party, taking the Hamilton West electorate from Trevor Mallard. However he lost it back to Labour's Martin Gallagher in the 1993 election.

  22. Elizabeth Ryan

    Elizabeth ("Lizzy") Ryan (born November 10, 1985 in Hamilton, New Zealand) is a field hockey striker from New Zealand, who made her "Black Sticks" debut in the year 2005 against the United States.   27. Dennis Rogers

    Dennis Rogers was a GP, and latterly the Mayor of Hamilton, New Zealand from 1959-1968. He was elected for 3 terms. During his mayorship, he campaigned for the poor and for an international airport to built in Hamilton. He died of a heart attack in 1987. He was well known for his like of gardening, and the Rogers Rose gardens in Hamilton are named after him. Rogers' Brother, Anthony Rogers, was also a well known Hamiltonian political figure.

    Robbie Hart (born December 2 1974, Hamilton, Waikato) is a New Zealand cricketer. He was the first choice Test wicket keeper for the New Zealand cricket team after the retirement of Adam Parore.
