After some time practicing law in Harford County, Maryland, he participated in Maryland's state constitutional convention.

Born in Annapolis, Johnson was the son of a distinguished Maryland lawyer and politician, John Johnson (1770 - 1824). He graduated from St. John's College in 1812 and then studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1815, and then moved to Baltimore, where he became a legal colleague of Luther Martin, William Pinkney and Roger B. Taney.

He studied law and became a lawyer in Easton. He was a delegate to the Maryland's constitutional convention in 1836 and a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1838, 1843, and 1845.

Marvin Mandel (b. April 19, 1920), a member of the United States Democratic Party, was the 56<sup>th</sup> Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1969 to 1979. He was Maryland's first, and to date only Jewish governor. Mandel was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended the Baltimore City Public Schools. He also attended Baltimore City College before receiving his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Kennedy was born in Baltimore, Maryland to merchant John Kennedy and Nancy Pendleton. His parents sent him to Charles Town, Virginia (now West Virginia), in 1821, where he attended the Jefferson Academy. He studied law and also engaged in agricultural pursuits.
