He is the adopted brother of Travis Wall, runner-up of the second season of "So You Think You Can Dance". He is often confused with Taimak, known as "Bruce Leroy", from the movie "The Last Dragon".

At seven-years-old, Koumaev moved to Mill Creek, Washington, where he grew up and picked up dancing at age 11 after watching "Breakin'".
