  1. Jean Mayer

    Jean Mayer (February 19, 1920 - January 1, 1993) was a renowned French-American nutritionist and the tenth president of Tufts University from 1976 to 1992. During his lifetime, Mayer was known as a leading expert and activist on hunger issues. Mayer was the son of French physiologists Jeanne Eugenie Mayer and Andre Mayer, one of the founding members of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

  2. Daniel Dennett

    Daniel Clement Dennett (born March 28 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a prominent American philosopher whose research centers on philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of biology, particularly as those fields relate to evolutionary biology and cognitive science. Dennett is currently the Director of the Center for Cognitive Studies and the Austin B. Fletcher Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University.

  3. Lawrence S. Bacow

    Lawrence S. Bacow was appointed the twelfth President of Tufts University on September 1, 2001. He received his S.B. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his M.P.P. and Ph.D. from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

  4. Vali Nasr

    Vali Reza Nasr (b. 1960) is an Iranian-American academic and scholar, as well as Professor of International Politics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University. An expert in contemporary Middle Eastern affairs and Islam and politics, in January, 2006, Nasr was named the Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan think-tank focusing on foreign policy.

  5. Edward R. Murrow

    Edward R. Murrow ( April 25 , 1908 - April 27 , 1965 ) is viewed by historians as one of the great figures who stood for honesty and integrity in American broadcast journalism during the middle of the 20th Century . His radio news broadcasts during World War II were eagerly followed by millions of radio listeners.

  6. Robert Sternberg

    Robert J. Sternberg (born December 8, 1949), an American psychologist and psychometrician and the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University. He was formerly IBM Professor of Psychology and Education at Yale University and the President of the American Psychological Association. Sternberg currently sits on the editorial board of "Intelligence."

  7. Jessica Biel

    Jessica Biel Actress Jessica Biel was born on March 3, 1982, in Ely, Minnesota. Jessica grew up in Boulder, Colorado with an early ambition to be in music theater.   8. Ryan Miller

    Ryan Miller is Guster's lead singer. He also plays guitar and occasionally bass or piano. He met bandmates Adam Gardner and Brian Rosenworcel while the three were freshmen at Tufts University in August 1991, and met bandmate Joe Pisapia some years later. Ryan Matthew Miller was born November 21, 1972 in Lubbock, Texas. He was raised in Richardson, Texas and graduated from Berkner High School, where he had his own band, the Silents.

  9. Ayesha Jalal

    Ayesha Jalal is a Pakistani-American historian. She is a professor of history at Tufts University and a MacArthur Fellow. The bulk of her work deals with the creation of Muslim identities in modern South Asia. She is the daughter of Hamid Jalal, a nephew of the famous Urdu fiction writer Manto and a civil servant. Ms. Jalal came to New York at the age of 16.

  10. Arthur M. Sackler

    Arthur M. Sackler was an American physician, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He attended New York University School of Medicine and graduated with an M.D. In 1960 Sackler started publication of "Medical Tribune", a weekly medical newspaper. He established the Laboratories for Therapeutic Research in 1938.

  11. Alexander Vilenkin

    Alexander Vilenkin is Professor of Physics and Director of the "Institute of Cosmology" at Tufts University. A theoretical physicist who has been working in the field of cosmology for 25 years, Vilenkin has written over 150 papers and is responsible for introducing the ideas of eternal inflation and quantum creation of the universe from nothing. His work in cosmic strings has been pivotal.

  12. Adam Gardner

    Adam Gardner is a guitarist and vocalist for the band "Guster" and a member of the Tufts University "Beelzebubs". He grew up in Morristown, New Jersey and played for a band called "Royal Flush" while a student at The Pingry School. Adam and his wife, Lauren, started Reverb, an eco-friendly companion to summer rock tours. Gardner was interviewed about Reverb for the July 2006 issue of The Green Room magazine.

  13. Leonard Horowitz

    Leonard Horowitz DMD, MA, MPH is a medical researcher who has written several books on topics of current medical interest, the most famous of which is "Emerging Viruses: Aids & Ebola - Nature, Accident or Intentional?". Other works include "Death in the Air: Globalism, Terrorism, and Toxic Warfare" and "DNA: Pirates of the Sacred Spiral". He also has a host of articles to his credit. His opinions and thinking fall well outside the mainstream of medical thought.

  14. Brian Rosenworcel

    Brian Andrew Rosenworcel (born July 23, 1973) is the drummer for the band Guster. For many years, Rosenworcel played a combination of bongos, congas, djembe, hand snares and cymbals instead of using a traditional drumset. He now alternates between hand percussion and drum set.   15. Thomas R. Pickering

    Ambassador Pickering is senior vice president for international relations for Boeing. He has had a long career spanning five decades as a U.S. diplomat, serving as under secretary of state for political affairs, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and as U.S. ambassador to Russia, India, Israel, Nigeria, Jordan, and El Salvador. He also served on assignments in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

  16. John Holmes

    John Holmes (January 6, 1904-June 22, 1962) born John Albert Holmes Jr., was a poet and critic. He was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, and both attended and taught at Tufts University where he was a teacher of literature and modern poetry for 28 years. He wrote seven volumes of poetry and the lyrics to several Unitarian Universalist hymns.

  18. Issam Fares

    Issam Fares is a Lebanese politician and international investment businessman. Fares was a member of the Lebanese Parliament and occupied the post of Deputy Prime Minister until February 28, 2005 when the government of Omar Karami submitted its resignation. He decided not to run for public office in the parliamentary elections of 2005. He is said to have donated a large piece of land that houses the Byblos campus of the Lebanese American University.

  21. Charles Tufts

    Charles Tufts was an American businessman. Tufts donated twenty acres (80,000 m²) of land in Medford, Massachusetts for what was to be named Tufts University. In time, Charles Tufts donated another 80 acres (320,000 m²), bringing the campus area to 100 acres (400,000 m²). Tufts made his fortune through his brickmaking factory. Tufts is a descendant of Peter Tufts, an early colonist who came to the US from England in 1638.

  22. Kishore Mahbubani

    Kishore Mahbubani is dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.   28. Leonard Carmichael

    Leonard Carmichael was a U.S. educator and psychologist. Born on November 9 1898 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he received his B.S. from Tufts University in 1920 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1924.
