She became well-known after the publication of her influential essay, "Under Western Eyes: Feminist Scholarship and Colonial Discourses" in 1986. In this essay, Mohanty articulates a critique of the political project of Western feminism in its discursive construction of the category of the "Third World woman" as a hegemonic entity.

  6. Sitaram Yechury

    Sitaram Yechury is an Indian politician, member of the politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was born on 12 August, 1952 in an Andhra Brahmin family hailing from Kakinada.   7. Bingu Wa Mutharika

    Bingu wa Mutharika (born February 24, 1934) is a Malawi economist, politician, and the current President of Malawi. He took office on May 24, 2004, after winning a disputed presidential election. Born Brightson Webster Ryson Thom in Thyolo, about 30km from Malawi's commercial capital, Blantyre, he reverted to the family name of Mutharika and adopted the first name of Bingu during the 1960s when pan-Africanism was sweeping across the continent.

  10. Mrinal Miri

    Mrinal Miri (born August 1, 1940) is an Indian philosopher and educationalist. He was awarded a BA in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge in 1966 and gained his doctorate in 1970. From 1970 to 1974 he was a Lecturer in Philosophy at St. Stephen College under the University of Delhi, before moving to NEHU. Professor Mrinal also served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, from 1993 to 1999.

    Andre Béteille is an Indian sociologist and writer. He is particularly well known for his studies of caste in South India. He was a Professor of Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics at the University of Delhi where he is Professor Emeritus of Sociology since 2003. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology from the University of Calcutta. Thereafter he received his doctorate from the University of Delhi.

  13. Satya Vrat Shastri

    Dr. Satya Vrat Shastri (also written Satyavrat Shastri) is internationally known as a Sanskrit scholar. He is a honorary professor at the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was formerly the head of the Department of Sanskrit and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Delhi, where he was the Pandit Manmohan Nath Dar Professor of Sanskrit, from 1970 through 1995.

  20. Indra Sen

    Indra Sen (13 May 1903 - 14 March 1994) was a devotee of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, psycholgist, author, and educator. He was born in the Jhelum district of Punjab (now part of Pakistan), but grew up in Delhi when his family moved there. Froma young age he was interested in the spiritual quest. He completed a Master's degree in both Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Delhi. On 5 December 1928 he married Lilawati, and they had two children.

    Pradeep Dubey (born January 9, 1951) is a Leading Professor of Economics at State University of New York, Stony Brook and a member of Center for Game Theory in Economics at Stony Brook.     Dr. George T. Chaponda (born November 1 1942 in Mendulo village, Mulanje district, Malawi) is a Malawian diplomat and politician. Chaponda attended the University of Delhi from 1963 to 1969 and studied history and political science. He then worked as an assistant manager of road services in Malawi and as a legal advisor. He studied law at the University of Zambia from 1979 to 1983 and at Yale University from 1983 to 1984.
