His achievements include producing five Olympic gold medal winners between 1956 and 1968. Elliott, a college track runner of short and middle distances, graduated from Villanova University in 1935 and returned to coach the track team in 1949 until his death in 1981.

    Edward (Ed) Lewis Pinckney (born March 27 1963 in The Bronx, New York) is an American former professional basketball player in the NBA. A 6'9" forward, Pinckney led Villanova University to the NCAA title over the Georgetown Hoyas in 1985. He was the recipient of the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after registering 16 points and 6 rebounds in the 66-64 victory. Also in 1985 he was selected tenth overall by the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Draft.

    John LeRoy Hennessy, the founder of MIPS Computer Systems Inc., is currently serving as the 10th President of Stanford University.     Paul Joseph Arizin (April 9 1928 - December 12 2006), nicknamed "Pitchin' Paul," was an American basketball player who spent his entire National Basketball Association career with the Philadelphia Warriors from 1950 to 1962.     Alvin Leon Williams (born August 6 1974 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American professional basketball player of the NBA. He played college basketball at Villanova University. The Portland Trail Blazers drafted him in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft, and Williams began his career there before going on to play for the Toronto Raptors, joining them in 1998. He appeared in all 82 games for two straight seasons, in 2001-02 and 2002-03.

    Dwayne Edward McClain (born February 7 1963 in Worcester, Massachusetts) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2nd round (27th overall) of the 1985 NBA Draft. A 6'6" shooting guard from Villanova University, he played in only one NBA season. As a member of the Pacers during the 1985-86 season, he averaged 3.5 points in 45 games played. McClain was a member of Villanova's National Championship team in 1985.

He later returned to Miami and built his support in the city's Cuban community, and was sworn in as mayor on November 13, 1985, replacing Puerto Rico-born Maurice Ferre in this office.

    George Lawrence ("Larry") James (born November 6, 1947) is a former American athlete. James won the silver medal in the 400 m with his time of 43.97 seconds at the 1968 Olympics, bettering the existing world record but placing him second behind teammate (and fellow Hall of Famer) Lee Evans (43.86).

Born in Arklow, Delany studied in the United States at Villanova University, where he was coached by the well-known track coach Jumbo Elliott. His first achievement of note was a place in the final of the 1500 m at the 1954 European Championships in Berne.

  28. Chris Ford

    Christopher Joseph Ford (born January 11, 1949 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA) is a former professional basketball player and head coach. A 6' 5" (1.96 m) guard from Villanova University, he played ten seasons (1972-1982) in the NBA as a member of the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics. Ford is credited with scoring the NBA's first three-point shot for the Boston Celtics on October 12, 1979 in a game against the Houston Rockets at Boston Garden.

    Harold Jensen is a former American basketball player. Jensen played for Villanova University from 1983 to 1987. Jensen was a member of the 1985 NCAA Tournament Championship team. Jensen is most remembered for his shooting performance in the 1985 NCAA Tournament, particularly the championship game, in which Jensen converted five out of five field goal attempts. Jensen was named to the 1985 All-NCAA Championship and All-Southeast Region teams.

    Jerramiah T. Healy (born December 1950) is the current Mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey. He ran for the unexpired term of the late Glenn D. Cunningham and was elected in November 2004. In the special election, he defeated Acting Mayor L. Harvey Smith. He was subsequently elected to a full term by a record landslide. Healy entered public service as an assistant prosecutor for the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in 1977.

In addition to coaching basketball for Villanova, Severance was a professor of business law at the university. Severance coached the Villanova Wildcats for 25 seasons (1936-1961), compiling a 413-201 (.673) record. Among his former players is Hall of Fame member Paul Arizin.
