- Davey O'Brien
Robert David O'Brien was an American football player who played quarterback at Texas Christian University and for the Philadelphia Eagles, and was also an agent for the FBI. O'Brien played college football at Texas Christian University, and in 1938 led TCU to an undefeated season. O'Brien was named to thirteen All-American teams that season and became the first college football player to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award in the same year.

Jane Lesly Conly (1948-) is an American author, the daughter of the more famous Robert C. O'Brien. Her first book, "Racso and the Rats of NIMH", was published in 1986, and is a sequel to her father's "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1966 and from Smith College in 1971. Her "Crazy Lady" won the Newbery Honor. She was also the author of another book, What Happened on Planet Kid.

Mark Peterson is a retired U.S. soccer forward. Peterson was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington where he attended Wilson High School. He played soccer at Wilson, as well as for the Norpoint Royals Soccer Club. Peterson elected to forgo college and joined the Seattle Sounders development program in 1979. This was the first year the Sounders played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). In 1980, he was called up to the first team where he had an immediate impact.

Gordon Willey was born in Chariton, Iowa, on March 7, 1913, the only child of Frank and Agnes (Wilson) Willey. His father was a pharmacist in the small town of Chariton. This fact later became significant for Willey when he learned that the father of Professor Alfred M. Tozzer, his predecessor at Harvard, had also been a pharmacist of middle-class status in the town of Lynn, Massachusetts.

Joan was the daughter of the late William Wesley Wilkes and wife Grace Lilly Wilkes, who arrived from Bramwell, WV at the turn of the century. Wesley was very successful in the insurance business. From this wonderful marriage came seven children, David Philip, Wesley Jr.

Dr. Carter was born in Dunham, KY, on July 30, 1914, the daughter of Lewis M. and Daisy Wills Webb. She came with her parents to WV as a baby and spent the remainder of her life in the Beckley area. Dr. Carter graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1932 and received a Standard Normal Certificate from Marshall College and an AB Degree from Concord College.

Delmar Dale Lawson , 54, formerly of Beckley, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home in Falls Church, Va. , following an extended battle with cancer. Born Jan. 31, 1949, he was the son of the late Clarence Lawson and Estie Decenskie Lawson. Mr. Lawson, a 1974 M.A. graduate of Marshall University, was a public policy analyst and president of Dale Lawson Associates.
