    Earl Holmes Bell is a former pole vaulter from the United States, who won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.     Arnn has been President of Hillsdale, a prominent liberal arts college, since 1999. Before that, he served as president of the Claremont Institute, a think tank based in southern California. Arnn received his bachelor's degree in political science and accounting in 1974 from Arkansas State University. He later studied at the Claremont Graduate School, receiving his master's degree in government there in 1976 and his doctorate in government in 1985.

  8. Ray Brown

    Leonard Ray Brown, Jr. (born December 12, 1962) is a former American football offensive lineman. He played college football at the Arkansas State University and played in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions. He announced his retirement January 14, 2006 after 20 seasons, the same day he started a playoff game for the Redskins. He is one of the oldest players to start a playoff game at the age of 43.

  10. Oren O'Neal

    Orenthal O'Neal (born September 8, 1983 in Stuttgart, Arkansas) is a former American football fullback at Arkansas State University. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. After coming to Arkansas State in 2001 as a walk-on, O'Neal was diagnosed with chylothorax and subsequently had part of his lung removed. He returned to the football team in 2002 and worked on getting stronger. Before the 2003 season, O'Neal earned a scholarship.

    Charles J. "Charley" Thornton, (ca. 1937 - 16 February 2004), was an important American college sports figure. Charley Thornton was born about 1937 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1954. Thornton graduated from Arkansas State College in 1958 earning the award as the top male student. After college Thornton became a sports editor at "The Jonesboro Sun" and then at the "Arkansas Gazette".

  12. Jeff Hartwig

    Jeff Hartwig (born 25 September 1967 in St. Louis) is an American pole vaulter. In 1998 he set two North American records with 6.00 and 6.01 metres. The latter was an improvement of 16 centimetres from his personal best of 5.85 m from 1997. In 1999 he won US national championships by improving his own record to 6.02 metres, and his current North American record of 6.03 metres followed in 2000. His personal best indoor is 6.02 metres, also an area record.

    Bill "Bull" Davidson, (ca. 1935 - 1999), was head football coach and associate athletic director at Arkansas State University in the 1970s.     Fred Lee Barnett (born June 17, 1966 in Shelby, Mississippi) is a former professional American football player who was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 1990 NFL Draft. A 6'0", 203 lbs. wide receiver from Arkansas State University, Barnett played in eight NFL seasons from 1990 to 1997 for the Eagles and Miami Dolphins.
