    My name was originally David Dwight Eisenhower but I later changed it to Dwight David Eisenhower. I was born on October 14th, 1890 in Denison Texas from a German family. My father was a mechanic at a local creamery and my mother was a zealous Mennonite. As it turned out, I went into the army to become the Supreme Commander in Operation Overlord. Although my mother was a pacifist, she didn't oppose my joining the U.S. army.

    Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first President licensed to pilot an airplane. He received pilot's license number 93,258 on November 30, 1939 when he was stationed in the Philippines. He took to the air in order to cover his military assignments. This hands-on experience enabled him to appreciate the use of air craft during the D-Day Invasion.
