  1. Michelle Kwan

    Michelle Wing Kwan is an American figure skater and media celebrity who has won nine U.S. championships, five world championships, and two Olympic medals. She has remained competitive for over a decade and is the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history. Known for her consistency and expressive artistry on ice, she is widely considered to be one of the greatest figure skaters of all time despite having never won an Olympic gold medal.

  3. Tonya Harding

    Tonya Maxine Harding (born November 12, 1970) is an American former figure skater. Despite a tough childhood in an unstable family, as well as being plagued by asthma (aggravated by smoking), she became an elite figure skater. She won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships twice and placed second in the 1991 World Championships. She was the second woman, and the first American woman, to complete a triple axel jump in competition.

    John G. "Johnny" Weir (born July 2, 1984 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania) is an American figure skater. He is a three-time U.S. national champion (2004-2006) and the 2007 national bronze medalist. He is currently ranked 6th in the world. Unlike most figure skaters, he is a clockwise spinner.

    Kimberly Claire Meissner (born October 4, 1989), better known as Kimmie Meissner, is an American figure skater. She is the 2007 U.S. National Champion, the 2007 Four Continents Champion, and the 2006 World Champion. She is the second American woman to land the triple Axel in competition.

    Alexei Konstantinovich Yagudin is a Russian figure skater. Yagudin was the 2002 Olympic champion as well as a four-time World Champion, a two-time World Professional Figure Skating Champion, a three-time European Champion, and three-time Grand Prix Final gold medalist.

    Tara Kristen Lipinski (born June 10 1982) is an American figure skater and celebrity. At the age of 15, she won the Olympic gold medal in figure skating at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and remains the youngest gold medalist in the history of the Olympic Winter Games.

    Dorothy Stuart Hamill (born July 26, 1956, Chicago, Illinois) is an American figure skater and 1976 Olympic champion. Hamill was born in Chicago, but her family moved to Greenwich, Connecticut shortly after where she spent the rest of her childhood. She has a brother and a sister. Hamill started ice skating when she was eight years old on her grandparent's backyard pond. Her skates were too big, so her grandmother would put stuffing in the toes to make them fit.

    Sarah Elizabeth Hughes (born May 2, 1985 in Great Neck, New York) is an American figure skater. She is the 2002 Olympic gold medalist.

    Brian Anthony Boitano (born October 22, 1963 in Mountain View, California) is an Italian-American figure skater from Sunnyvale, California. He is a four-time US National Champion (1985-1988), two-time World Champion (1986, 1988) and the 1988 Olympic gold medalist. He became a professional skater following the 1988 season, and once again in 1994.

  15. Katarina Witt

    Katarina Witt (born December 3, 1965) is a German figure skater, in Germany she was commonly affectionately called "Kati" in the past, but today her full name is used more often. She won two Olympic gold medals for East Germany, first in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics and the second in 1988 at the Calgary Olympics. She won the World Championships in 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988, and six consecutive European Championships (1983-1988).

  16. Irina Slutskaya

    Irina Eduardovna Slutskaya (born February 9, 1979) is a Russian figure skater. She is a two-time World Champion, seven-time European Champion, two-time Olympic medalist, and four-time Grand Prix Final Champion. Slutskaya, known for her athletic ability, was the first female skater to land a triple lutz-triple loop combination. She is also known for her trademark double Biellmann spin with a foot change, which she also invented.

  17. Sonja Henie

    Sonja Henie (April 8, 1912 - October 12, 1969) was a Norwegian figure skater and actress. She is a three-time Olympic Champion (1928, 1932, 1936), a ten-time World Champion (1927-1936) and a six-time European Champion (1931-1936). Henie won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies figure skater. At the height of her acting-career she was one of the highest paid movie-stars in Hollywood.

  18. Emily Hughes

    Emily Hughes (born January 26, 1989) is an American figure skater. She is the 2007 U.S. National silver medalist. She is the younger sister of Sarah Hughes, who won a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

  19. Kurt Browning

    Kurt Browning (born June 18, 1966) is a Canadian figure skater. Born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and raised in Caroline, Alberta, Browning was a four-time Canadian figure skating champion and four-time World Champion. He represented Canada in three Winter Olympics, 1988 (finishing 8th overall), 1992 (6th) and 1994 (5th), and was given the privilege of carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway.

  20. Todd Eldredge

    Todd James Eldredge (born August 28, 1971 in Chatham, Massachusetts) is an American figure skater. He is a six-time national champion (1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002) and won a world title in 1996. After finishing sixth in his third Olympics, the 2002 Winter Olympics, Eldredge announced his retirement from competitive skating. He is currently touring and headlining with Stars on Ice.

    is a Japanese figure skater. She is the 2007 World silver medalist and the 2006 Japanese national champion. Asada is currently ranked first in the world.

    Evan Frank Lysacek (born June 4, 1985) is an American figure skater. He is the 2007 US National Champion and a two-time World bronze medalist (2005-2006). Lysacek trains in El Segundo, California with coach Frank Carroll at the Toyota Sports Center. He is currently ranked fifth in the world. He was the United States Olympic Committee's Male Athlete of the Month for November 2006.

    David Pelletier (born July 14, 1982 in Lunenburg, Massachusetts) is an American pair skater. With Andrea Varraux, Pelletier won the 2003 Junior Grand Prix event in Croatia and placed fourth in Ostrava. They went on to place seventh at the Junior Grand Prix Final. Pelletier and Varraux are the 2004 US National junior bronze medalists and placed eighth at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships that year.

    Christopher Bowman (born March 30, 1967 in Hollywood, CA) is an American figure skater. Known as "Bowman the Showman", he is a two-time U.S. National Champion. He is also a two-time medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships and competed in two Olympic Games. Before his skating career, he was a child actor. During his career, he was trained by Frank Carroll, Toller Cranston, and John Nicks.

    A student in U of T's Chemical Engineering program, Jeffrey Buttle is the 2008 World Champion in figure skating. He also holds the titles of 2005-2007 Canadian Men's Champion, 2005 World Silver Medalist, 2002 and 2004 Four Continents Champion, and 2006 Olympic Bronze Medalist. Admired in the skating world for his complex choreography, he excels at inventive spins and challenging footwork. Buttle is currently preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

    Tanith Belbin (born July 11, 1984 in Kingston, Ontario) is a Canadian-American ice dancer. Though she holds dual citizenship, she competes for the United States and has competed for the U.S. since she began skating with Benjamin Agosto in 1998. With Agosto, Belbin is the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, three time Four Continents Champion (2004-2006), and four time US National Champion (2004-2007).

  30. Rudy Galindo

    Val Joe "Rudy" Galindo (born September 7, 1969 in San Jose, California) is an American figure skater. He skated pairs with Kristi Yamaguchi, winning the 1988 World Junior Championship and the U.S. senior championships in 1989 and 1990. He also won the 1987 World Junior Championship in singles before temporarily giving up on singles competition in order to concentrate on pairs. After his partnership with Yamaguchi broke up in 1990, Galindo returned to singles competition.

  33. Debi Thomas

    Debi Thomas, (born March 25, 1967) is a figure skater and the first African American to win a medal at the Winter Olympics. Thomas won the 1986 U.S. National ladies' figure skating title and the Ladies' title at the 1986 World Figure Skating Championships, those achievements earned Thomas as the ABC's Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year that year. She represented the Crystal Springs Figure Skating club and was coached by Alex MacGowan.

  34. Shizuka Arakawa

    is a Japanese figure skater. She is the 2006 Olympic Champion and the 2004 World Champion. She is the first Japanese figure skater to win the Olympic gold medal in figure skating, and the second oldest woman to win the Olympic figure skating gold. On May 7, 2006 Arakawa announced her plans to retire from eligible figure skating, and she now skates professionally, and appears on Japanese TV as a skating sportscaster.

    Brian Joubert (born September 20, 1984) is a French figure skater. He is the 2007 World Champion, the 2004 and 2007 European champion, the 2003-2007 French National champion, and the 2006 Grand Prix champion.

  36. Miki Ando

    Miki Ando (born on December 18, 1987) is a Japanese figure skater, and the 2007 World Figure Skating Champion. She is the 2004-2005 Japanese National Champion and 2004 World Junior Champion. Ando is the first and only female skater to successfully complete a quadruple jump in competition. Ando landed the first ladies' quadruple Salchow at the 2002 Junior Grand Prix Final. In 2006, she entered Chukyo University in her hometown.

  37. Brian Orser

    Brian Orser OC (born on December 18, 1961 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian figure skater and one of the most accomplished skaters in his country's history, with eight national titles, two Olympic medals, and a world title to his credit. He currently coaches Kim Yu-Na.

  38. Surya Bonaly

    Surya Bonaly (born 15 December, 1973) is a professional figure skater. Bonaly represented France as a competitive skater, but is now also a United States citizen.

  39. Cecilia Colledge

    Cecilia Colledge (born November 28 1920) is a retired British figure skater. She was the 1937 World Champion, 1936 Winter Olympics silver medalist, five-time British Champion (1935-1938, 1946) and three-time European Champion (1937-1939). Her rivals were Sonja Henie of Norway and her teammate Megan Taylor. She stopped competing during World War II, when major figure skating competitions, including the Olympics, did not take place.
