    Geoffrey Bodine (born April 18, 1949 in Chemung, New York) is the oldest of the three Bodine brothers (Brett Bodine and Todd Bodine) who are all NASCAR drivers. Geoff currently lives in Cornelius, North Carolina. Geoff's racing career seemed to be on track right from the start as his father and grandfather, Eli Bodine Jr. and Sr. built Chemung Speedrome just a year after he was born.

    Todd Bodine (born February 27, 1964) is a stock car racer. Todd is the younger brother of former racers Geoff Bodine and Brett Bodine. Bodine won the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship while driving the #30 Lumber Liquidators/Germain Toyota.

    John W. Jones was born in 1817 on a plantation in Leesburg, Virginia as a slave to the Elzy family. On June 3 1844, fearing he would be sold to another plantation as his owner grew old and near death, Jones and four others fled north. They survived a 300-mile trip and arrived in Elmira, New York in July of 1844. While fleeing, Jones and his companions fought off slave hunters in Maryland and made their way into the free state of Pennsylvania.

He later was posted to the Philippines and China, and was an instructor in ordnance at the Naval Academy.

    Frances Miriam "Berry" Whitcher (1811 - 1852) was an American humorist, born in Whitestown, New York. She contributed poems and sketches to the newspapers. Her humorous creation, "The Widow Bedott", made her a celebrity. She married Rev. Benjamin W. Whitcher of Elmira, New York in 1847. Following their marriage, he lost his position in his church, perhaps due to claims by people that she used them as models.

  26. Francis Asbury Roe

    Francis Asbury Roe (October 4 1823 - December 28 1901) was an admiral in the United States Navy who served during the American Civil War. Born in Elmira, New York, Roe entered the United States Navy as a midshipman on October 19 1841, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1848. Roe left the Navy for eleven months, from June 1848 to May 1849, serving aboard the mail steamer SS "Georgia".
