He was appointed Justice in Eyre south of the Trent along with Peter Atte Wode in 1361, a position he held until about 1367.

Born in Nottingham, Sandby joined the topographical drawing room of the Board of Ordnance at the Tower of London in the early 1740s and in 1746 was tasked with mapping the remote Scottish Highlands.

He is said to have been Charles's closest and most trusted servant, largely as a result of his knowledge that the king did not like to be approached on matters of business. May was born in Mid Lavant, the son of Sir Humphrey May, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and his second wife, Judith daughter of Sir William Poley. He was a cousin of Hugh May, the architect.

    Thomas Sandby was an English cartographer who later became an architect and teacher. Along with his younger brother Paul, he became one of the founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768, and was its first professor of architecture. Born in Nottingham, the sons of a textile worker, both the Sandby brothers joined the topographical drawing room of the Board of Ordnance at the Tower of London in the early 1740s.

    William de St Carilef (also Calais or Carileph) (d. 1096), Bishop of Durham and chief counsellor of William Rufus, was a Norman monk and prior of the abbey of Saint-Calais in Maine, who received the see of Durham from the Conqueror in 1081. In Durham annals he is honourably remembered as the prelate who designed the existing cathedral, and also for his reform of ecclesiastical discipline. His political career is less creditable.
