  1. Trotula Of Salerno

    Trotula of Salerno (b. c. 1090), also known as Trotula di Ruggiero, Trota and Trocta, was a female physician who wrote several influential works on women's medicine, the most prominent of which is "The Diseases of Women", or "Passionibus Mulierum Curandorum", also known as "Trotula Major". Little is known of Trotula's life. She is believed to have been a professor of medicine at the School of Salerno.

    Andrea Fortunato (July 26, 1971 - April 25, 1995) was an Italian football player who played as a left-back for Juventus and the Italian national team. Fortunato was born in Salerno. He signed for Juventus from Genoa in summer of 1993, and such was his impression at Juventus that Arrigo Sacchi, head coach of the Italian team during that period, gave him a cap for the national team. In May 1994, he had been diagnosed a form of leukemia.

    Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio (March 13, 1959), is an Italian politician. He was appointed on May 17, 2006, as Minister of Environment in the cabinet of Romano Prodi. Born in Salerno, member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies since 1992, Pecoraro Scanio is the leader and current president of the Italian Green Party, one of the parties making up the ruling coalition in the new Italian government.

    Giovanni Amendola (April 15 1882 - April 7 1926) was an Italian journalist and politician, noted as an opponent of Fascism. Amendola was born in Salerno. After he graduated philosophy, he collaborated with some newspapers, among them being "Il Leonardo" of Giovanni Papini and "La voce" of Giuseppe Prezzolini. After that, he obtained the chair of theoretical philosophy at the University of Pisa.

    Sikelgaita (also "Sichelgaita" or "Sigelgaita") (1040 - 16 April 1090) was a Lombard princess, the daughter of Guaimar IV, Prince of Salerno, and second wife of Robert Guiscard, Duke of Apulia. She married Robert in 1058, after Robert divorced his first wife Alberada, due to supposed consanguinity. Her sister Gaitelgrima had earlier married Robert's half-brother Drogo.

    Nicola Abbagnano was an Italian existential philosopher. Nicola Abbagnano was born in Salerno. He studied in Naples and taught at Turin. In 1972 he moved to Milan, where he collaborated to Indro Montanelli's "Il Giornale". For a short while, he was assessor for culture in the "comune" of Milan. From 1952, together with Norberto Bobbio, he was co-director of "Rivista di filosofia". Abbagnano's philosophy was defined by himself "positive existentialism".
