Alice Boyle was born in Massachusetts to Irish parents on February 29, 1836. In 1849, Alice's father, Michael Boyle, was among the earliest California pioneers. Alice came west in 1852, presumably with the rest of the family. On June 26, 1858, at the age of 16, Alice married William Morris Higgins. William was a graduate of Princeton and had received a medical degree from Jefferson College. He came to California around the Horn, serving as a ship's doctor. - Stephen R. Dujack

Tim's first marriage ended in 1973, and he remarried in 1975. A daughter of his second wife by a prior marriage, died in 1981 at the age of seven, an event that Tim described as both a tragedy and a great loss. Tim is survived by his mother, Ruth, who said of him, "Tim was so proud of being a graduate of Princeton. He wore his class ring all the time and, of course, it was buried with him." - E.
