James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens was an American track and field athlete. Michael ("Mike") Anthony Powell is an American Track and Field athlete, and the holder of the long jump world record. Mike Powell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the 1991 World Championships in Athletics (Tokyo), he broke Bob Beamon's 23-year-old long jump world record by 5 cm (2 inches), leaping 8.95 m (29 ft 4½ in). The world record still stands.

Robert ("Bob") Beamon (born August 29, 1946) is a former American track and field athlete, best known for his long-standing world record in the long jump. Beamon, from Jamaica, New York, set a world record for the long jump at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City with a jump of 8.90 m (29 ft. 2-1/2 in.). His world record stood for 23 years, and was named by Sports Illustrated magazine as one of the five greatest sports moments of the 20th century.

Enezaide do Rosário da Vera Cruz Gomes, <small>OIH</small>, (born November 20 1979) is a Portuguese heptathlete, born in São Tomé and Príncipe. She is also a top-class competitor in the long jump, and she competed in 100 metres hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Naide Gomes started competing under the flag of her birth-country São Tomé and Príncipe and represented it at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, though she has lived in Portugal since she was 11 eleven years-old.

Fiona May (born December 12, 1969 in Slough, England) is an Italian athlete competing in the long jump. She has won the World Championships twice and has two Olympic silver medals. Her personal best jump was 7.11 metres, which was her silver medal result at the 1998 European Championships. She also competed briefly in triple jump, and her career best of 14.65 metres from 1998 was good enough to place fifth in the world that season.

Glenroy John Gilbert (born August 31, 1968 in Port of Spain) is a former Canadian athlete, winner of gold medal in 4x100 m relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Glenroy Gilbert formed along with Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey the best 4x100 m relay team in the mid-1990s. Gilbert made his debut at the major international championships at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he was 21 in the Long Jump.

Lynn Davies CBE (born May 20, 1942 in Nantymoel, Wales) was captain of the British Olympic long jump team in 1968. He won a gold medal in the event in 1964 and finished ninth in 1968. In 1964 he also competed in the 100 metres contest. Davies was created a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) on 17 June 2006, having previously been a Member (MBE).
