  1. Frank Batten

    Frank Batten (1927-) is a communications entrepreneur who began his career when he assumed leadership of his uncle Samuel L. Slover's newspaper, "The Virginian-Pilot" and "The Ledger-Star" in Norfolk, Virginia at age 27 in 1954. Batten grew his uncle's business by acquiring additional newspapers, radio stations, and television stations, as well as founding a new cable station The Weather Channel.

    Arthur “Bud” Metheny was an American baseball player and coach. He played professional baseball for the New York Yankees (1943-46) and served Old Dominion University for 32 years as head baseball coach, head basketball coach and athletic director. Metheny was a graduate of the College of William and Mary where he played college baseball.

  3. Justin Verlander

    Justin Brooks Verlander (born February 20, 1983, in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He ended the 2005 season pitching for the Erie SeaWolves, the AA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. He became the fifth starter in the Tigers rotation in 2006. Verlander, a 6'5", 200 pound right-hander, pitched for the Old Dominion University baseball team for three years.

  4. Blaine Taylor

    Blaine Taylor is the current head coach of the Old Dominion University Monarchs basketball team. He has led his team to many accomplishments both major and minor, including a recent CAA Tournament championship in 2005 and subsequent birth in the NCAA Tournament, where the twelfth-seeded Monarchs lost to fifth-seeded Michigan State in the first round. Taylor also led the Monarchs to the 2006 NIT semifinals, where the team lost to the Michigan Wolverines.
