Born in Hartford, Connecticut DiMauro started her career at TERC under the auspices of a National Science Foundation grant to study the ways in which professionals share information in communities of practice online. She has built online communities in business and education settings globally.

Michael Hauben (1973-2001) was a computer specialist and author, interested in the transformative social effects of online communities and the latent political power of the Internet. In 1992 he coined the term "Netizen" to describe an Internet user who possesses a sense of civic responsibility for her/his virtual community in much the same way citizens would feel responsible for a physical community.

Jon Radoff (b. September 17, 1972) is an American entrepreneur and game designer. His work has focused on online communities, Internet media and computer games. Radoff was a co-founder of NovaLink, an early internet service provider. In 1991, while at NovaLink, he created "Legends of Future Past", one of the first commercial MMORPGs. Another early game he wrote was "Space Empire Elite", a bulletin board system strategy game for Atari ST BBSes.
