Sir John Charnley (born August 29, 1911-August 5, 1982) was a British orthopaedic surgeon. He pioneered the hip replacement operation. Charnley was born in Bury in Lancashire. After excelling in science subjects at Bury Grammar School, Charnley was encouraged to aim for medicine. Sian Caiach (b. 1957) is a Welsh politician and member of Plaid Cymru. She will stand for the Ogmore constituency in the National Assembly for Wales election, 2007. Sian Caiach was born in Gelligaer and now lives in Cwmbach, Carmarthenshire. Sian Caiach gained a Medical Degree from Charing Cross Medical School in London, and when on to work as an "Orthopaedic Surgeon".
