    Yelena Gadschiyevna Isinbayeva is a Russian pole vaulter. She won the 2004 Olympic Gold Medal with a new World Record (then 4.91 m), was elected Female Athlete of the Year by the IAAF twice (2004 and 2005), and Sportswoman of the Year by Laureus, and has set 20 world records. On July 22, 2005, she became the first female pole vaulter to clear 5.00 metres. At the age of 25 she is seen as the best female pole vaulter in history.

  4. Jeff Hartwig

    Jeff Hartwig (born 25 September 1967 in St. Louis) is an American pole vaulter. In 1998 he set two North American records with 6.00 and 6.01 metres. The latter was an improvement of 16 centimetres from his personal best of 5.85 m from 1997. In 1999 he won US national championships by improving his own record to 6.02 metres, and his current North American record of 6.03 metres followed in 2000. His personal best indoor is 6.02 metres, also an area record.

    Derek Miles (born 28 September 1972) is an American pole vaulter. His personal best vault is 5.85 metres, achieved in February 2005 in Donetsk, Ukraine. Miles trains with Earl Bell in Jonesboro, Arkansas at Bell Athletics.

  7. Toby Stevenson

    Toby Stevenson (born November 19, 1976 in Odessa, Texas) is an Olympic class pole vaulter from the United States. He's known for being the only pole vaulter in the international elite to wear a helmet during jumps. While attending Permian High School, Stevenson set 24 high school records, taking three district championships, and winning the state title in 1995, when he was also the top-ranked 18-year-old pole vaulter in the world.

  8. Tim Mack

    Timothy ("Tim") Mack (born September 15, 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American pole vaulter who became Olympic champion in 2004. The same year he won the 2nd IAAF World Athletics Final with the result 6.01 m, thereby joining the exclusive "6 meters club" of pole vaulters who reached 6 meters. He is a graduate of St. Ignaitus High School, in downtown Cleveland. He also appeared as Captain Planet at a banquet in May of 2007.

    Lawrence Johnson (born May 7, 1974) is a retired pole vaulter, born in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. Best known for winning the Olympic silver medal in 2000, he also won a gold medal at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships and a silver medal at the 1997 IAAF World Indoor Championships. His personal best jump is 5.98 m, which he achieved in 1996.

    Nick Hysong (born December 9, 1971 in Winslow, Arizona) is an American athlete competing in the pole vault. Best known for winning the Olympic gold medal in 2000 with a personal best jump of 5.90 metres, he also won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics. Has excellent speed. He has run 10.27 for 100 meters. In his final year at Arizona State University in 1994, he won both the Pac 10 and the NCAA championships.

Buller won the silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, finished fourth at the 2001 Summer Universiade and fifth at the 2006 IAAF World Cup. His personal best is 5.81 metres, achieved in April 2001 in Walnut. Buller has a degree in kinesiology from the Louisiana State University.

  14. Monika Pyrek

    Monika Pyrek (born August 11, 1980 in Gdynia) is a Polish athlete competing in pole vault. In the 2004 Olympics, she placed fourth with 4.55 metres. She won a silver medal in the 2005 World Championships in Athletics with the result 4.60 m. She also won the silver medal at the 2006 European Athletics Championships.   15. Tori Anthony

    Tori Anthony is an American pole vaulter from Palo Alto, California and the holder of the national indoor and outdoor records for high school women at 14' 2-1/2" (4.33 meters) and 14' 1" (4.29 meters) respectively. She was originally a gymnast, but burned out on the sport and switched to track and water polo. Competing in her first track events as a sophomore, she placed fourth in the 2005 state championships for pole vault within four months of taking up the sport.

  16. Steven Hooker

    Steven Hooker (born 16 July 1982) is an Australian pole vaulter. His personal best is 5.96 metres, achieved in September 2006 in Berlin. This ranks him third among Australian pole vaulters, behind Dmitri Markov and Paul Burgess (athlete).

    Danny Ecker (born July 21, 1977 in Leverkusen) is a German athlete competing in the pole vault. His current personal best is 5.93 metres, but through his indoor best performance of 6.00 metres he has a place in the so-called 6 metres club. 5.93 ranks him fourth among German pole vaulters, behind Tim Lobinger, Andrei Tivontchik and Michael Stolle. He won a bronze medal at the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships and placed fourth at the 1999 World Championships.

  18. Anna Rogowska

    Anna Rogowska (born May 21, 1981 in Gdynia) is a Polish athlete competing in pole vault. She won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics. Rogowska narrowly beat Monika Pyrek, another pole vaulter from Gdynia. Early 2005 brought success as she won the silver medal in the European Indoor Championships. On July 22 2005 in London, she achieved a personal best with 4.80 m, which was also the Polish record.

    Giuseppe Gibilisco (born January 5, 1979 in Siracusa) is an Italian pole vaulter who won the 2003 World Championships with a personal best of 5.90m. The 2004 Olympic bronze is another of his greatest accomplishments.

  22. Rens Blom

    Rens Blom (born March 1, 1977 in Munstergeleen) is a Dutch athlete competing in pole vault. He achieved the result of 5.75 as early as in 2000, but five years passed without much progression. However, on June 8, 2004 in Zaragoza he set the current Dutch record with 5.81. In 2005, he showed stability as he cleared 5.80 early in May. At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, he once again achieved 5.80 and won a surprising gold medal.

    Tye Harvey (born 25 September 1974) is an American pole vaulter. Harvey won the silver medal at the 2001 World Indoor Championships in Lisbon with a vault of 5.90 metres. In March 2001 in Atlanta Harvey established a career best of 5.93 metres, on an indoor track. His personal best outdoor vault was 5.81 metres, achieved in July 2000 in San Marcos, TX.

  26. Rick Suhr

    Rick Suhr (pronounced "shur") is a pole vaulting coach in Rochester, New York. A number of his students have won national titles for pole vaulting, including Dan Tierney, Tiffany Maskulinski and American high school record holder Mary Saxer. Jennifer Stuczynski, who had trained with Suhr for two years, became the third woman ever to win a U.S. Indoor national title in the pole vault (behind Stacy Dragila and Mary Sauer) in 2005.

    Igor Pavlov is a Russian pole vaulter. He won the silver medal at the 2003 World University Games, and in the following years he became indoor champion on national, European and World level. He finished fourth both at the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2005 World Championships.

  30. Earl Bell

    Earl Holmes Bell is a former pole vaulter from the United States, who won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. Four years later, at his last Olympic appearance, he ended up in fourth place at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He's a former world record holder, and a 2002 inductee into the "USATF Hall of Fame".

  31. Bob Richards

    The Rev. Robert "Bob" Eugene Richards (born February 20 1926 in Champaign, Illinois), known as the "Vaulting Vicar" in his competitive days, was a versatile athlete who made three Olympic teams in two events. He competed in the 1948, 1952, and 1956 Summer Olympics as a pole vaulter, and also was a decathlete in 1956. The second man to pole vault 15 feet, he was the Olympic pole vault gold medalist in 1952 and 1956 after winning the bronze medal in 1948.

  32. Okkert Brits

    Okkert Brits (born August 22, 1973 in Uitenhage) is a South African athlete competing in the pole vault. His current personal best of 6.03m, set in 1995, is also the African record. He has won numerous medals at international events. He has competed in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games finishing 7th in 2000. Married to Jane Gillespie in 2003 and father of Sarah Jane Brits, born in 2005 and David Okkert Brits born in 2006.

    Emma George (born November 1, 1974 in Beechworth, Victoria) is an Australian pole vaulter. She set twelve world records in a row in the late nineties, but she lost it on May 26 2000 to Stacy Dragila and was unable to recapture it.

  35. Fabiana Murer

    Fabiana Murer (born 16 March 1981) is a Brazilian pole vaulter. Her personal best is 4.66 metres, achieved in August 2006 in Monaco. This is the current South American record.

    Jean Galfione (born 9 June 1971 in Paris) is a French athlete. In 1995 he won the bronze medal pole vault at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. In 1996 he won the gold medal in the pole vault at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1999, he won the IAAF Indoor World Championships clearing 6.00m.

  37. Tatyana Polnova

    Tatyana Polnova, née Zaykova (born 20 April 1979) is a Russian pole vaulter. Between 1998 and 2002 she competed for Turkey under the Turkish name Tuna Köstem. She won the bronze medal at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. Her personal best is 4.78 metres, achieved in Malaga in June 2006.

  38. Janine Whitlock

    Janine Whitlock (born 11 August 1973) is an English pole vaulter. Her personal best is 4.47 metres, achieved in July 2005 at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, in the same meet that Yelena Isinbayeva became the first woman to clear 5 metres. In 2002 Whitlock was found guilty of methandienone doping. The sample was delivered on 16 June 2002 during the English Commonwealth Games trials. She received a suspension from July 2002 to July 2004.

    Robert ("Bob") Seagren (born October 17, 1946) was an American pole vaulter, the 1968 Olympic champion. A native of Pomona, California, Bob Seagren was one of the world's top pole vaulters in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He won six National AAU and four NCAA titles indoors and outdoors.     Giovanni Lanaro (born 27 September 1981) is a Mexican pole vaulter. He finished in joint fourth place at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Moscow. He also competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, but failed to clear his opening height. He also competed in the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, but arrived eighth in the Group A with 5,45 metres. His personal best jump is 5.81 metres, achieved in April 2007 in Walnut.
