  1. Franz Fischler

    Franz Fischler (born September 23, 1946) is an Austrian politician. He was the European Union's Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries (1995-2004). Born in Absam, Tyrol he studied agriculture at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Vienna, and finished as Dr rer.nat.oec. in 1978. He worked as University assistant from 1973 to 1979, then for the Tyrol Chamber of Agriculture, finally as its director from 1985 to 1989.

  22. Akhtar Hameed Khan

    Dr Akhtar Hameed, who had gone to the US in May on a personal visit, died at a hospital where he had gone for a periodic check-up, his family said. Born in 1914 at Agra, Mr Khan won selection in the Indian Civil Service and later spent two years at Cambridge. In 1945, he quit the service and worked as a labourer or a lock-maker. Later, he joined Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia as a teacher. Mr Khan migrated to Pakistan in early 50s.
