Dr. William David Sullins , Jr. (Rear Admiral USN, Ret.) , age 62, loving husband, father, grandfather, devoted optometrist and serviceman died peacefully Sunday morning, February 6, 2005, at Baptist West Hospital in Knoxville. A lifelong resident of Athens, he graduated from McMinn County High School in 1960. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and the Southern College of Optometry.

Lyndon Jones , PhD, FAAO Professor - University of Waterloo Lyndon Jones is a Professor at the School of Optometry and Associate Director of the Centre for Contact Lens Research. He is also cross-appointed to the Departments of Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at McMaster University, Ontario.

Professor Brien Holden , BAppSc PhD DSc OAM Brien Holden is Scientia Professor of the University of New South Wales, founder and Director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales, Deputy CEO of the Vision Cooperative Research Centre, and was Director of the Cooperative Research Centre for Eye Research and Technology.
- David Miles
David Miles completed a PhD in virology and molecular biology at the University of New South Wales in 2003. Before obtaining a PhD, David obtained a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences at Mississippi State University and a Master of Science in microbiology, immunology, and parasitology at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. David has worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in the area of neurobiology.

Graham Strong , OD, MSc (Waterloo) Professor, University of Waterloo Director, Centre for Sight Enhancement Graham Strong is a Professor in the School of Optometry at University of Waterloo and serves as Director of the Centre for Sight Enhancement (CSE), a position he’s held since 1987. Graham received his OD jointly from the Ontario College of Optometry in Toronto and the University of Waterloo in 1970 and received an MSc from Waterloo in 1983.

Professor Brian Layland , BSc OAM (Chair) Since graduating as an optometrist in 1953, and with a Bachelor of Science (OptSc) in 1958, Brian Layland has become a well respected optometric practitioner active in the scientific and professional communities. He is the Director of Aboriginal Programs for the International Centre for Eyecare Education.

Elizabeth L. Irving , OD, PhD Associate Professor - University of Waterloo Dr. Irving is an Associate Professor at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo, an Affiliated Scientist with the Vision Science Research Program at the Toronto Western Hospital and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Toronto. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from Waterloo in 1983 and her PhD in Vision Science from Waterloo in 1994.

Professor Mark Willcox , BSc PhD (Chief Scientific Officer, Executive Director Optometric Clinic) Mark Willcox is Executive Director of the Optometric Clinic and Chief Scientific Officer of the Institute for Eye Research. He is also Professor of the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, and an Executive Director of the Vision Cooperative Research Centre.

Christian Casanova , PhD, FAAO Professor - Université de Montréal Christian Casanova received his MSc (1983) and PhD in neurobiology (1987) from the Université de Montréal . He undertook post-doctoral studies (1987-1990) at the School of Optometry at UC Berkeley on the neurophysiology of binocular vision and at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at McGill University on neuronal plasticity.

Tim Ireland , BA, MLIS Information Services & Resources Assistant, Optometry Learning Resource Centre Tim Ireland graduated with a BA from the University of Waterloo in 1992. Tim is poised to receive an MLIS from the University of Western Ontario this spring, 2005. He looks forward to putting his newly acquired skills to use in the academic community. Tim has been with the School of Optometry since 2000.

Natalie Hutchings , BSc (Hons Optom), PhD (Aston), MCOptom Assistant Professor, University of Waterloo Faculty Researcher, Centre for Contact Lens Research Dr Natalie Hutchings trained as an optometrist at Aston University in the United Kingdom and worked in private practice before returning to Aston to complete a PhD in statistical analysis of visual field progression.

DR CHRIS FAUL Bio Chris graduated from the Witwatersrand Technical College, School of Optometry, in 1974 and after eleven years in private practice enrolled at the University of Houston, College of Optometry, USA, where he graduated in 1987. He has a special interest in marketing and business management and has published many articles and lectured extensively on the subject. Chris was the founder of a group of super optical stores in 1993.

Carol Stephenson , BSc, MLIS Liaison Librarian, University of Waterloo Carol Stephenson began her career as a librarian at the University of Waterloo (UW) in 1988. In her current position, she manages the UW Optometry Learning Resource Centre, and is the Liaison Librarian for the School of Optometry and the Applied Health Sciences Faculty. Her work involves teaching search and retrieval processes with Web-based resources.

- Eunice Myung
Dr. Eunice Myung graduated from La Sierra University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a minor in Chemistry. In 1999, she received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). She continued on to a residency position in Family Practice, with an emphasis in pediatrics, at the University of Houston, School of Optometry. Dr. Myung is an Assistant Professor at SCCO.
- Stuart Andrew Sullins
Stuart Andrew Sullins , OD is a native of Athens and was educated in both the Athens City and McMinn County schools. He attended and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology from Auburn University in 1997. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-medical honorary. Dr. Sullins received his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Optometry in 1997.
- Marvin R. Poston
Marvin R. Poston, Optometrist, whose offices in Oakland and Danville flourished for 40 years, and following his retirement established Poston Crest Vineyard in Calistoga, died on July 18, 2002. He was 87 years old. Marvin graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1939. He went on to serve his Bay Area communities through the care of his patients and his immeasurable contributions to many organizations, at local and state levels.
- J. Vernon Odom
J. Vernon Odom , PhD Vernon Odom holds joint appointments in the Department of Ophthalmology and Physiology at West Virginia University. Dr. Odom graduated from Davidson College with an AB degree and obtained the MA and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Following postdoctoral work at Case Western Reserve University, the School of Optometry of the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Florida.
- Tammy Hong
Dr. Tammy Hong graduated from University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 2000. To further her training, she received her Certificate of Residency in Family Practice with an emphasis in Pediatric Optometry from University of Houston, College of Optometry in 2002. She is one of the few optometrists who is particularly interested in treating and managing pediatric related eye problems.
- John G. Ashman
John G. Ashman , of Muncie, has practiced optometry for 43 years. He is a partner at the Family Vision Center in Muncie. He received his bachelor's degree in optometry in 1962 and his master's degree in optometry in 1963, both at IUB. Ashman serves on the IUAA Executive Council as a representative of the School of Optometry and is a Hoosiers for Higher Education community captain.

Werner Adrian , Ph.D., M.S., B.S. — Slate B Werner Adrian is currently a Professor in the Faculties of Science and Engineering, having a principal appointment with the School of Optometry and cross-appointment in the Department of Systems Engineering. He has been on the faculty of the University of Waterloo since 1979. Formerly a native of Germany, he earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Technische Hoschscule Darmstadt.
- Brian Layland Oam
Brian is an optometric practitioner, active in the scientific and professional communities. In education he is a visiting lecturer and committee member of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Optometry and Vision Science, and is a Visiting Professor through the Cooperative Research Centre of Eye Research and Technology. He is a member and chairman of many professional committees involved with the government at the state and commonwealth levels.
- Associate Professor Jan Lovie-Kitchin
Associate Professor Jan Lovie-Kitchin MSc(Optom) LOSc Melb, GDRehab Lat, PhD, FAAO Jan Lovie-Kitchin is an Associate Professor in the School of Optometry at QUT. She graduated from the Department of Optometry at the University of Melbourne in 1973. She undertook one year of clinical practice and returned to complete post-graduate study towards her Masters degree in 1976.

Dr. Michael Billings is a general optometrist for the Marion Eye Centers & Optical of Poplar Bluff, MO. He performs full comprehensive eye exams, including the diagnosis and treatment of anterior segment pathology and injury, glaucoma management, fitting contact lenses, and prescribing glasses for the entire family. Dr. Billings obtained his optometric training from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, School of Optometry.
