    Arsi Ilari Harju (born March 18, 1974 in Kurikka) is a Finnish shot putter with the team Perhon kiri. He won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics with a distance of 21.29 metres.     Irina Korzhanenko (born May 16, 1974 in Azov) is a former Russian shot putter. She gained international recognition when she won a bronze medal at the 1997 IAAF World Indoor Championships. In the following years she became European Indoor champion, European champion and World Indoor champion. At the 2004 Summer Olympics she originally won the gold medal in shot put, but tested positive for stanozolol and was stripped of the title.

  19. Parry O'Brien

    William Patrick "Parry" O'Brien was an American shot put champion. Born in Santa Monica, California, he competed in four consecutive Summer Olympics where he won two gold medals (1952, 1956) and one silver medal (1960). In his last Olympic competition (1964) he placed fourth. For this, he is inducted in the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. In the early 1950s, O'Brien developed a new method for throwing the 16-pound shotput.

    Andrei Mikhnevich (born July 12, 1976 in Babrujsk) is a Belarusian shot putter. He received a two-year suspension for a doping offense on August 7, 2001. Only 17 days after his suspension ended he became world champion in Paris with a personal best throw of 21.69 metres. He also won the Universiade the same year. His best performance the following two years was a fifth place at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

    Ulf Timmermann (born November 1, 1962 in East Berlin) is a German shot putter who broke many world records during the 1980s and is the first and one of only two people to ever throw over 23 metres (along with Randy Barnes). Timmermann was born in East Berlin to an athletic family and took up shot put at 13. He broke his first world record in 1985 with a throw of 22.62 meters.

On July 9, 1988 at the East Germany - Italy tournament in Neubrandenburg she set a new world record with a throw of 76.80 meters. This was 2.24 meters further then the previous record, set by the Czechoslovakian Zdenka Šilhavá.

    Enezaide do Rosário da Vera Cruz Gomes, <small>OIH</small>, (born November 20 1979) is a Portuguese heptathlete, born in São Tomé and Príncipe. She is also a top-class competitor in the long jump, and she competed in 100 metres hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Naide Gomes started competing under the flag of her birth-country São Tomé and Príncipe and represented it at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, though she has lived in Portugal since she was 11 eleven years-old.

    Martin J. Sheridan (born March 28, 1881 in Treenduff, County Mayo, Ireland - died March 27, 1918) is a former athlete from the United States, who moved as a sixteen year old to the U.S.A four time Olympic gold medalist, he won the discus throw event at the 1904, 1906, and 1908 Summer Olympics as well as the shot put at the 1906 Olympics. Sheridan also competed at the 1906 Summer Olympics and was the flag-bearer for the American team in the 1908 Summer Olympics.

    Peter Sack is a German shot putter.     Dallas Long was an American athlete who competed mainly in the shot put. He competed for the United States in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy in the shot put where he won the bronze medal behind fellow Americans Bill Nieder and Parry O'Brien. He returned four years later to Tokyo for the 1964 Summer Olympics where he finally won the gold medal in the men’s shot put.
