  8. John B. Denton

    John Bunyan Denton (July 28, 1806 - May 22, 1841) was a Methodist lawyer for whom both Denton County, Texas and the city of Denton, Texas were named. He was converted to the Methodist church after meeting his wife, Mary Greenlee Stewart, who also taught him how to read and write. He later became a captain and was known for his battles against Native Americans. He died in 1841 after an attack on the Native Americans of Keechi Village in adjacent Tarrant County.

    Chante Jawan Mallard is an African-American female from Texas who was convicted and sentenced to 50 years' imprisonment for her role in the death of a homeless male, Gregory Biggs. The incident occurred on October 26, 2001 when Mallard's car struck him; at the time Mallard was believed to have been driving while intoxicated. The force of the impact sent Biggs flying through the windshield, lodging him there.

    William Carl "Bill" Meier (born 1940) is an attorney and a former member of the Texas State Senate from Hurst in Tarrant County, who holds the world filibuster record in a legislative body. In May 1977, near the close of the regular session, Meier spoke for forty-three hours against a worker's compensation bill that he considered "anti-business" in scope. His activity blocked the bill from being considered in the waning hours of the session.

    William H. Bourland was a politician in the Republic of Texas and early statehood Texas who served briefly as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives during the First Texas Legislature. Bourland was born in 1811 in Kentucky to Benjamin Bourland and the former Agnes Nancy McElroy. He moved to Texas in 1840 and joined the Texas Rangers in 1841, leading a group of men at the Battle of Village Creek on 24 May 1841 in what is now Tarrant County.
