Hugh Alan "Buddy" MacMaster, CM, ONS, LL.D (born October 18, 1924) is one of the most renowned artists in the tradition of Cape Breton fiddle music. He was born into a Gaelic-speaking home in Timmins, Ontario to John Duncan MacMaster and Sarah Agnes MacDonald MacMaster. Hugh Macdonald, PC (May 4 1827-February 28 1899) was a lawyer, judge and member of the First Canadian Parliament. He represented the Antigonish riding of Nova Scotia, from 1867 to 1869, along with William Hallett Ray, as an Anti-Confederate and, from 1869 to 1873, as a Liberal-Conservative. McDonald served as President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Militia and Defence in 1873.

Dean Melanson (born November 19, 1973, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada) is a former National Hockey League defenseman. He was drafted in the fourth round, 80th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Melanson appeared in only nine games in the NHL: five with the Sabres in the 1994-95 season and four with the Washington Capitals in the 2001-02 season. The majority of his professional career has been spent in the American Hockey League.

Angus McIsaac (1842 - June 12 1902) was a Nova Scotia lawyer, judge and political figure. He represented Antigonish in the Canadian House of Commons as a Liberal member from 1873 to 1885. He was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1842 and studied at Saint Francis Xavier College. McIsaac served as inspector of schools for Antigonish County. He articled in law with William Joseph Croke and Daniel McDonald and was called to the bar in 1871.

She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to James Affleck, a sea captain, and Catherine Saunders. She was the eldest of eight children. She has been described by historians as a high-spirited young woman who resembled Catherine Linton in Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights". She married Thompson in 1870 in Portland, Maine.
