- George Bacovia
George Bacovia was a Romanian Symbolist poet. Born in Bacău as the son of a merchant, Dimitrie Vasiliu, and Zoia Langa, he married Agatha Grigorescu in 1928, and moved to Bucharest, where he lived until his death. He is buried at Bellu cemetery.
- Vasile Pârvan
Vasile Pârvan was a Romanian historian and archaeologist, born in Huruieşti, near Bacǎu. He studied history in Bucharest, with Nicolae Iorga as one of his professors. He continued his studies in Germany. His Ph.D. thesis, written in 1909, was titled "The nationality of merchants in the Roman Empire". Subsequently, he became professor at the University of Bucharest, and was elected member of the Romanian Academy.

- Teohari Georgescu
Teohari Georgescu (January 31, 1908 - December 31, 1976) was a high-ranking member of the Romanian Communist Party. Born in Bacău, he was the third of seven children of Constantin and Aneta Georgescu. Georgescu, whose formal education ended after the fourth grade, began his career as an assistant in his father's store. In 1923, he was sent to the main printing house in Bucharest, Cartea Românească, to apprentice as a typesetter.
- Silvia Marcovici
Silvia Marcovici is a Romanian classical violinist. Born in Bacău, Romania, she studied at the Conservatory in Bucharest. Her international debut was at the age of sixteen when she performed in The Hague under Bruno Maderna. In 1969, she won the first prize in the Marguerite Long/Jacques Thibaut Competition in Paris, as well as the special prize of Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. In 1970, she was the winner of the first prize in the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest.

His professors include: Dan Hatmanu, Dimitrie Gavrilean, and Victor Mihailescu-Craiu. Since 1977 he iss active as a drawing and art history teacher in Târgu Ocna, Bacǎu.

- Lucreţiu Pătrăşcanu
Lucreţiu Pătrăşcanu was a Romanian communist politician and leading member of the Communist Party of Romania (PCR), also noted for his activities as a lawyer, sociologist and economist. The author of ample studies of social history, which expressed Marxist views, he was at the center of several controversies concerning his attitudes towards nationalism.
