1. Ali-Akbar Akbar Dehkhoda

    Allameh Ali Akbar Dehkhoda was a prominent Iranian linguist, and author of the most extensive dictionary of the Persian language ever published. He was also active in politics, and served in the Majles as a Member of Parliament from Kerman and Tehran. He also served as Dean of the School of Law of the University of Tehran. Dehkhoda was born in Tehran to parents from Qazvin. His father died when he was only 10 years old.

  2. Mohammad Moin

    Born in Rasht, Iran on July 12, 1914 (according to his own notes) also reported as April 29, 1918 by some other sources and died in Tehran, Iran on July 4, 1971, Mohammad Moin was one of the prominent scholars of Persian literature and Iranology. Mohammad Moin received his BA in literature and philosophy in 1934. He then moved to Belgium and graduated in applied psychology, anthropology and cognitive sciences under Elmer Knowles.

  3. Ja'Far Shahidi

    Ja'far Shahidi (Born 1918 Boroujerd) is a notable scholar of Persian language and literature and a renowned historian of Islam. Shahidi studied both in University and Seminary and hold a PhD degree from Tehran University and Ijtihad from Seminaries in Qom and Najaf. He is most notable for his works on Dehkhoda encyclopedia and Mohammad Moin dictionary of Persian language.

  9. Mir Ali Tabrizi

    Mir Ali Tabrizi (14th century). Distinguished Iranian calligraphist, to whom the invention of Nasta'liq calligraphy style is attributed. Not much is know about Mir Ali's life. He apparently invented Nasta'liq calligraphic style, and was thus titled "Qodwat al-Kottab" (literarily 'the chief of the scribes'). He lived in Tabriz and was a poet as well as an adept calligrapher (see Dehkhoda dictionary). He died in 850th of Hijra (1446-7).

    Roodabeh consists of two sections. "Rood" and "ab". "Rood" means child and "ab" means shining. so Roodabeh means shining child. (from Dehkhoda Dictionary)<BR>

  11. Ibn Balkhi

    Ibn Balkhi was a 12th century historian of Persia, in the city of Balkh, in present day Afghanistan. He is known for his work the "Fars Nama" (فارس نامه). Dehkhoda dictionary mentions him to be a contemporary of Muhammad I of Great Seljuk.
