  1. Miguel de Icaza

    Miguel de Icaza (born c. 1972) is a Mexican free software programmer, best known for starting the GNOME and Mono projects. Miguel de Icaza was born in Mexico City and studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) but never received a degree. He came from a family of scientists in which his father was a physicist and his mother a biologist. He started writing free software in 1992.

  3. Jeff Waugh

    Jeff Waugh (known as "jdub") is an Australian free software and open source software developer. He is a consultant for Waugh Partners and is very active in the GNOME free software community. He is married to Pia Waugh - another active member of the free software community in Australia.

  4. Havoc Pennington

    Robert Sanford Havoc Pennington is currently a Red Hat Desktop manager/engineer, but his fame in the FLOSS world is largely due to his work on GNOME, Metacity, GConf, D-BUS, and more. Before his Red Hat position he was one of the main developers of Debian GNU/Linux. He also founded freedesktop.org in 2000. More recently, Havoc has led the development of the Mugshot project. Pennington is a 1998 graduate of the University of Chicago.

  5. Federico Mena

    Federico Mena Quintero is a Mexican computer programmer. He wrote the GNOME Canvas while working at Red Hat. He also maintained GIMP for a time, and was one of the first hires at Ximian, now Novell, where he still works. Along with Miguel de Icaza, Federico founded the GNOME project. He attended Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM), where he met De Icaza, to study computer science; he left there to work at Red Hat in the US.

  6. Robert Love

    Robert Matthew Love (born September 25, 1981) is an American author, speaker, and open source software developer. He is best known as a Linux kernel hacker, due to his contributions to the Linux kernel, with notable work including the preemptive kernel, process scheduler, kernel event layer, virtual memory subsystem, and inotify. Love is also active in the GNOME community, working on NetworkManager, GNOME Volume Manager, Project Utopia and Beagle.

  7. Jim Gettys

    Jim Gettys is a computer programmer. Currently, he is at the One Laptop Per Child project working to create the $100 laptop. He is Vice President of Software, responsible for the laptops' system software. He is one of the original developers of the X Window System at MIT and worked on it again with X.Org, where he served on the board of directors. He previously served on the GNOME foundation board of directors.

  8. Revelation

    Revelation is a graphical password manager for the GNOME desktop, released under the GNU General Public License license. It stores accounts information and passwords in a single encrypted database file.

  9. Ettore Perazzoli

    Ettore Perazzoli (June 15, 1974 - December 10, 2003) was an Italian free software developer. Born in Milan, Italy, he studied Engineering at Polytechnic University of Milan. He wrote a port of x64, a Commodore 64 emulator for Unix, to MS-DOS, thus turning it into a crossplatform emulator, which was renamed to VICE. He has been a maintainer of VICE for many years, and started the Microsoft Windows port, which is now the most popular version of VICE.

  10. Stuart Langridge

    Stuart Langridge (also known as 'Aq') is a web and software developer based in the United Kingdom. Langridge is the author of two books, DHTML Utopia, and Run Your Own Web Server Using Linux & Apache (with Tony Steidler-Dennison) for technical publishers SitePoint. Also for SitePoint, he wrote the Stylish Scripting weblog during 2005. Langridge is a member of the Web Standards Project's DOM Scripting Task Force and is an acknowledged commentator on DOM Scripting techniques.

  11. Lauris Kaplinski

    Lauris Kaplinski (born in 1971) is an Estonian author and computer hacker who has created free software and propagated Linux. His father is well-known Estonian philosopher Jaan Kaplinski. Lauris Kaplinski lives in Tartu, Estonia with his family. He studied molecular biology and philosophy, and started a small family computer shop in 1994, when he first came across Linux.   12. Michael Tiemann

    Michael Tiemann is a true open source software pioneer. His first major open source contributions included ports of and enhancements to GCC and GDB as well as the original authorship of the GNU C++ compiler, the world's first native-code C++ compiler. In 1989, Michael's technical successes and entreprenurial spirit led him to co-found Cygnus Solutions, the first company to provide commercial support for open source software.

  13. Jenny Bicks

    Jenny Bicks is an American television producer and screenwriter, most notable for her work as a television writer on the HBO series, "Sex and the City" and as the creator and writer of the ABC series, "Men in Trees". Bicks was also a writer on the shortlived series, "Leap of Faith" and wrote the screenplay for the 2003 film, "What a Girl Wants". Bicks made her directorial debut with the short film, "Gnome".

  14. Terry Scott

    Terry Scott (May 4,1927 - July 26, 1994) was an actor and comedian who appeared in seven "Carry On films". He also appeared in BBC One's popular domestic sitcom "Terry and June" with June Whitfield. As a regular comedy performer, he went on to become one of Britain's top stars. Scott was born in Watford and educated at Watford Field Junior School then Watford Grammar School. He studied accounting and served in the Navy during World War II.

  15. David Camp

    David Camp is an open source software developer who is known for working on the GNOME desktop environment. He previously worked at Ximian and then Novell after it purchased Ximian in 2003. Nautilus file manager is one of the projects he has worked on. Most recently he, along with Jonathan Blandford and Ray Strode, added a new MIME system to GNOME that is expected to be one of the stand-out features of the 2.8 release.
