    Walo Lüönd is a Swiss movie actor, best known for his role in the movie "The Swissmakers" ("Die Schweizermacher") along with comedian Emil Steinberger. He is married with Eva-Maria Bendig since 1957; they have two children, Daniel (1957-1987) and Oliver (b. 1958). Lüönd currently resides in two places, in the Engadin Valley, in the canton of Grisons, and in the Maggia Valley, in Ticino, but is officially registered in Rothenthurm in the canton Schwyz.

  4. Giorgio Biandrata

    Giorgio Biandrata or Blandrata (c. 1515 - 1588), Italian physician and polemic, who came of the De Biandrate family, powerful from the early part of the 13th century, was born at Saluzzo, the youngest son of Bernardino Biandrata. He graduated in arts and medicine at Montpellier in 1533, and specialized in the functional and nervous disorders of women.

  5. Gottfried Heinrich Graf Zu Pappenheim

    Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim, field marshal of the Holy Roman Emperor in the Thirty Years' War, was born at the little town of Pappenheim on the Altmühl, in Bavaria, the seat of a free lordship of the empire, from which the ancient family to which he belonged derived its name. He was educated at Altdorf and at Tübingen, and subsequently travelled in southern and central Europe, mastering the various languages, and seeking knightly adventures.

  6. Peter Kaiser

    Peter Kaiser (October 1, 1793 - February 23, 1864) was a historian and statesman from Liechtenstein. Kaiser was born in Mauren, in the Principality of Liechtenstein as one of eleven children. He studied languages and history in Feldkirch, Vienna and Freiburg/Breisgau. Kaiser became known as a proponent of the rights of the common people or serfs in his home country. In 1820 during the Congress of Vienna, he promoted German unification and rights issues.

  7. Jerome 2nd Count de Salis

    Jerome de Salis, 2nd Count de Salis-Soglio (1709-1794), was sometime British Resident in the Grisons and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He was also known as: "Hieronimus" ; "Gerolamo" ; "Geronimo" ; "Harry" ; "Jerome the grandfather" ; and "Monsieur le Comte de Salis".

  8. Philippe Paul comte de Ségur

    Philippe-Paul, comte de Ségur, French general and historian, son of Louis Philippe, comte de Ségur, was born in Paris. He enlisted in the cavalry in 1800, and forthwith obtained a commission. He served with General Macdonald in the Grisons in 1800-1801, and published an account of the campaign in 1802. By the influence of Colonel Duroc (afterwards duc de Frioul) he was attached to the personal staff of Napoleon.

    Bertold of Regensburg (c. 1220-1272), the greatest German preacher of the later Middle Ages, was a native of Regensburg, and entered the Franciscan monastery there.     Ernst Haefliger was a Swiss tenor. Haefliger was born in Davos, Switzerland and studied at the Zürich Conservatory. He studied with Fernando Capri in Geneva and Julius Patzak in Vienna. He had a lengthy and extensive international career and recorded many oratorios and operas. Starting in 1971, he taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. Haefliger died from acute heart failure on Saturday, 17 March, 2007, in Davos.

    Maria Anna Angelika/Angelica Katharina Kauffmann was a Swiss painter. She was born at Chur in Graubünden, Switzerland, but grew up in Schwarzenberg in Vorarlberg/Austria. Her father, Johann Josef Kauffmann, was a poor man and mediocre painter, but apparently very successful in teaching his precocious daughter. She rapidly acquired several languages, read incessantly, and showed marked talents as a musician.
