Originally a meteorologist, he wrote mainly on themes connected with mountains. His works include "Death March on Mount Hakkoda" (based on an incident in 1902 in the Hakkoda mountain range) and "Alaskan Tale".

Jiro Sato (jap. 佐藤 次郎 "Satō Jirō", January 5 1908 in Gunma Prefecture - April 5 1934 in Strait of Malacca) was a former tennis player from Japan. He graduated from Waseda University. He was ranked World No.3 in 1933, but committed suicide in Strait of Malacca during his trip to Davis Cup 1934. Jiro Sato reached Grand Slam Men's singles semifinals five times, still the best record in history of Japanese tennis.

He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the cavalry in 1895.

Jiro Kawasaki is a Japanese politician who served as Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare under Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Kawasaki was born in Shiogama, Miyagi. His father and grandfather were both politicians. He attended Keio University and graduated with a degree in Commerce. After several years working at Matsushita, Kawasaki won a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Mie Prefecture, in 1980.
