    Edwin David Joost (born June 5, 1916, in San Francisco, California) is a former shortstop and playing manager in American Major League Baseball. In 1954, Joost became the third and last manager in the 54-year history of the Philadelphia Athletics. Under Joost, the A's finished last in the American League and lost over 100 games.     Joost van der Westhuizen (born 20 February 1971) is a former South African rugby union footballer who was the Springboks' first choice scrum-half in the late 1990s. He was capped 89 times for the Springboks and scored 38 tries. He is the most capped Springbok of all time and holds the record for the most test tries by a South African player. His career test try tally of 38, makes him the scrum-half with the most tries in Test Rugby.

    Joost Swarte (born 24 December, 1947, Heemstede) is a Dutch comic artist and graphical designer. He is best known for his ligne claire or "clear line" style of drawing, and in fact coined the term. Joost Swarte studied industrial design in Eindhoven and started drawing comics in the late sixties. In 1971 he started his own comic magazine 'Modern Papier' and made regular contributions to the Dutch comic magazine 'Tante Leny Presenteert'.

    Joost van Trappen Banckert (ca. 1597, Vlissingen - Sep 12 1647, at sea) was a Dutch Vice Admiral who worked most of his sailing life for the admiralty of Zeeland. He was born in 1597 or 1599.     Joost Bürgi, or Jobst Bürgi was a Swiss clockmaker and mathematician. He invented logarithms independently of John Napier, since his method is distinct from Napier's. Napier published his discovery in 1614, and this publication was widely disseminated in Europe by the time Bürgi published in 1620, at the behest of Johannes Kepler. There is evidence that Bürgi arrived at his invention as early as 1588, six years before Napier began work on the same idea.
