Gareth McAuley (b. 5 December 1979, Larne) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays for Leicester City. He plays in central defence and received his first caps for the national side on 4 June 2005. He was named in the 2005/2006 season League Two select eleven whilst playing for Lincoln City. Coming from Glenoe outside of Larne and nicknamed Big G, Gareth began his career at Linfield and spent some time in early 2000 on loan at Ballyclare Comrades.

Cllr Jack McKee is a Unionist politician in Larne, Northern Ireland. Until his recent resignation from the party, McKee was a Democratic Unionist Party councillor. He is one of the longest serving councillor on Larne Borough Council, like the UUP's Roy Beggs he has severd continuously since the council was formed in 1973. He was also elected to the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996 and the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1982. He served as Mayor of Larne.

Robert "Bobby" McKee, MBE is a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) politician in Larne, Northern Ireland. He has been a member of the Larne Borough Council since 1989. In the 1970s McKee was a commander in the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) until he was injured in a car bomb explosion in November 1974, losing both legs. He has worked extensively for disabled charitites and was on the Queen's New Years Honours list in 2003 for this work.

He was born in Stranraer, Scotland and served in the merchant navy during World War II. Dave McAuley, born June 15 1961 in Larne, Northern Ireland is a former professional boxer. During his professional career he held the IBF world title in the Flyweight category. Among his most famous bouts were two brutal encounters with Colombian Fidel Bassa at Belfast's King's Hall. In 1989 McAuley won the IBF title from Duke McKenzie. He successfully defended his title five times, eventually losing it to Rodolfo Blanco in 1992, whom he had beaten two years previously.

James Buchanan, 1st Baron Woolavington, GCVO (16 August 1849-9 August 1935) was a British businessman and philanthropist. Buchanan was born in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, the son of Scottish immigrants, but his parents returned to the United Kingdom shortly after he was born and he was brought up in Larne. He joined a Glasgow shipping firm as an office boy when he was fourteen or fifteen, and was later promoted to be a clerk.

Sir Daniel Dixon, 1st Baronet, was a Northern Ireland politician. Dixon was the son of Thomas Dixon of Larne, County Antrim. He served as Mayor of Belfast in 1892 and as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1893 and from 1901 to 1903 and from 1905 to 1906. In 1902 he was created a Baronet, of Ballymenock in the County of Antrim. He was also a Member of Parliament for Belfast North as a Ulster Unionist from 1905 to 1907.

Roy Beggs was born in Belfast and later educated at Ballyclare High School and Stranmillis Teacher Training College before entering the teaching profession. Beggs first joined the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) in the early 1970s and went on to represent it on Larne Borough Council (1973-82). In 1982 however he left the DUP after an internal party dispute and became a member of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) and then served the party on Larne Borough Council (1982-present).
