  1. Border Gezi

    Border Gezi (December 17, 1964 - April 28, 2001) was a Zimbabwean politician. He was a close ally of Robert Mugabe within ZANU-PF and served as Minister for Gender, Youth and Employment from 2000 having previously been a provincial governor. Gezi was brought up in Mvurwi and attended Holy Rosary Secondary School.

  2. Isaac Matongo

    Isaac Matongo (born 12 March 1947 in Masvingo - died 2 May 2007) was a Zimbabwean politician, and labor activist. Matongo was elected vice-president of the National Engineering Workers' Union in 1988, eventually serving in the same position with the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions. He was the founding chairman of the Movement for Democratic Change, which is now the main opposition to the ZANU-PF party led by Robert Mugabe. He died In May 2007 of suspected heart failure.

    Anthony John Ireland (b. 30 August, 1984) in Masvingo is a cricketer from Zimbabwe. A tall allrounder, he is a right-arm medium seam bowler and an big-hitting lower order batsman. As a result of the ongoing crisis in Zimbabwean cricket he quit the Zimbabwean team after the 2007 World Cup to pursue a career in English first class cricket.

  6. Allan Wilson

    Allan Wilson (1856 - December 4, 1893), was born in Scotland. He went to Cape Colony and joined the Cape Mounted Rifles, earning a commission in the Basuto Police. Later he joined the Bechuanaland Exploration Company and was sent as their representative to Fort Victoria (now Masvingo) in Matabeleland, serving as the senior officer in the Victoria Volunteers. He became a Major and was killed while leading the Shangani Patrol.

    Gavin James Rennie (born January 12, 1976, Masvingo) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played in 23 Tests and 40 ODIs from 1996 to 2003. He was a left-hand top order batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler although his bowling was mainly restricted to first class cricket. His older brother John Rennie also played for Zimbabwe and in 1996-97 against Pakistan, history was made when the two played together along with the Strang and Flower brothers.

    Tonderai Chavhanga (born 24 December, 1983 in Masvingo, Zimbabwe) is a South African rugby union footballer. Chavhanga has played for the national team, the Springboks, being capped once in 2005. He plays for the Stormers in the international Super 14 competition. Chavhanga made his interntaional debut for the Springboks as a 21 year old on 11 June, 2005 on the right wing, in a home game against Uruguay at the Basil Kenyon Stadium in East London.

  13. Celestino Mukavhi

    Celestino Mukavhi (b. September 27, 1972) is a Zimbabwean sculptor. A native of the Bikita area of Masvingo province, Masvingo was last-born in a family of nine. His parents were subsistence farmers with little education. In 1975, his mother was killed in crossfire during the war for liberation. Mukhavi grew up on communal lands, leaving school in 1987 to begin work as a farmer. In 1989 his father was murdered, and he was forced to move to Harare in search of better work.

  15. Howard Unwin Moffat

    Howard Unwin Moffat (13 January, 1869 - 19 January, 1951) served as second premier of Southern Rhodesia, from 1927 to 1933. Born in the Kuruman mission station in Bechuanaland, Moffat was the son of the missionary John Smith Moffat and grandson of the missionary Robert Moffat, who was the friend of King Mzilikazi and the father-in-law of David Livingstone.

  16. James Matsika

    James Matsika James Matsika retired as the minister of the Rujeko Church of Christ in December 2006. Rujeko is one of the suburbs of Masvingo. Mr. Matsika is now serving as minister at the new Beitbridge Church of Christ, 180 miles south of Masvingo. As he is "retired," he works with the church for three weeks each month. He returns to his rural home in Nerupiri for a week each month to attend to matters there. Mr. Matsika is married with four adult children.

  17. Ben Pennington

    Ben and Karen served as "Missionaries On Campus" at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri for the spring term of 2007. This was an opportunity to share the challenges of the mission field with the student body and encourage students to consider a career in missions. The Penningtons will follow their term at Ozark with a short furlough before returning to Masvingo in September 2007.

    Morgen Musindo , Evangelist Morgen Musindo is an evangelist based in Chivhu. The town of Chivhu is a 90 minute drive north of Masvingo. As Mr. Musindo is originally from the Chivhu area, his ministry is mostly focused in Chivhu and in Buhera. He serves as minister of the Chivhu Church of Christ and also travels to approximately 15 churches in the Chivhu/Buhera region. Morgen is married and has three children.

    Emmanuel Mugari , Evangelist Mr. Mugari is an evangelist based in the rural area of Chagwiza, near Gutu. He works with Mr. Maronga and Mr. Musindo in a circuit ministry among the rural churches from Chivhu to Masvingo South. During the course of a year he will rotate to all 43 churches in the circuit.
