  1. Gernot Heiser

    Gernot Heiser (born 1957) is professor for operating systems at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He is also leader of the Embedded, Real-Time and Operating Systems (ERTOS) research program at NICTA. Recently he has founded a company called Open Kernel Labs (OK) where he serves as Chief Technology Officer. His research focuses on microkernels and microkernel-based systems as well as virtual machines.

    Nasrollah Jahangard (born 1957 in Tehran) is an Iranian politician and expert manager. Since 1997, he was the Deputy Minister of Post, Telegraph & Telephone (PTT) for Development & Planning, that the ministry later renamed to Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, he recently resigned from that position. He was the secretary of the Supreme Council of ICT of Iran and President Mohammad Khatami's advisor and special envoy for IT and ICT affairs.

    Renato Iannella Renato Iannella is the Chief Scientist at IPR Systems, responsible for research, development, and international standards strategies for its products and services. Renato is an active member of the World-Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and member of the W3C Advisory Board. Renato has recently co-chaired the W3C Workshop on Digital Rights Management (DRM), and is a member of the OpenEbook Forum, MPEG standards group, and the IETF DRM Working Group.

    Ric Clark Mr Ric Clark is the National ICT Alliance's Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for NICTA's operations, with a particular focus on commercialisation and intellectual property activities, and leads the Centre's industry development and outreach program. One of NICTA's key missions is to fund, create and commercialise intellectual property, to enable the benefits of the Centre's research to flow to the Australian community.

    Olli-Pekka Rinta-Koski Research Engineer Ola Rinta-Koski is a Research Engineer in the SAFE Information work package in the Smart Applications For Emergencies (SAFE) Project at NICTA's Queensland Research Laboratory.

    Before joining NICTA he was Director of Canon Information Systems Research Australia (CISRA), Canon’s Australian R&D subsidiary. CISRA is one of Australia’s largest multinational research and development subsidiaries with over 300 staff. It has been successful in integrating its technologies with Canon’s global products.

  13. Nicola Stokes

    Nicola Stokes is a NICTA Research Fellow based at the NICTA Victoria Laboratory at the University of Melbourne. She is also a member of the UniMelb Language Technology group, and is currently working on the NICTA Interactive Information Discovery and Delivery (I2D2) project with Steven Bird and Tim Baldwin (among others). Prior to joining NICTA, Nicola was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Text Summarisation group at the Department of Computer Science, University College Dublin (UCD).

    Paul Bannerman is a Research Scientist in the Empirical Software Engineering Program at National ICT Australia Limited (NICTA) and Visiting Research Fellow at the AGSM. Before joining NICTA, he was a consultant for twenty years in the management of information technology to a range of organisations in Australia, USA and the UK.

    Dr Varuni Witana joined NICTA as a senior researcher in February 2004. She is attached to the Embedded, Real-Time & Operating Systems (ERTOS) program and is currently working on the Digital Audio Networking project. Her active research interests include digital audio networking, precision networked clock synchronization. Other research interests include 802.11 wireless networking and multimedia communications.

  16. Ricky Robinson

    Dr Robinson's current research focus is in designing algorithms for distributing and caching context information, and developing a context management system that is robust to sensor failures and mobility. While there are many existing methods for distributing and caching generic kinds of data, we hypothesize that distribution of context information can be somewhat optimised by taking into account the additional information contained in formal context models.

    Chris Scott Brisbane Laboratory Director Queensland Laboratory, Brisbane Dr Chris Scott received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland in 1972. Between 1972 and 1975 he was employed as a research and development engineer with an Australian SME designing laser systems, this included the first industrial 50W CO2 laser manufactured in Australia.
