  1. Benedict T. Viviano O.P.

    Benedict Thomas Viviano O.P., a New Testament scholar and author, is a member of the Chicago Province of the Dominican Order of the Roman Catholic Church. He is on the faculty of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, as a full professor of New Testament, teaching in the French language. Before teaching in Fribourg, he taught for 11 years at the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem, and 12 years at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.

  2. Carl Czerny

    Carl Czerny (sometimes Karl; February 21, 1791 - July 15, 1857) was an Austrian pianist, composer and teacher. He is best remembered today for his books of etudes for the piano. Czerny was born in Vienna to a family of Bohemian origins. He was taught piano by his father before taking lessons from Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Antonio Salieri, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

  3. Moritz Moszkowski

    Moritz Moszkowski was a Polish-Jewish composer, pianist and teacher. He studied in Dresden and later Berlin, under Theodor Kullak and others. He was a teacher in Berlin for many years. His pupils included Frank Damrosch, Józef Hofmann, Joaquin Nin, Vlado Perlemuter, Ernest Schelling and Joaquin Turina. After a successful career as a concert pianist and conductor, he settled in Paris in 1897, where he died in obscurity and poverty.

  4. Tatiana Nikolayeva

    Tatiana Petrovna Nikolayeva (Russian: Татьяна Пeтрoвнa Николаева, "Tat'jana Petrovna Nikolaeva"; May 4, 1924-November 13, 1993) was a Russian Soviet pianist, composer and teacher. Nikolayeva was born in Bezhitsa (in the Bryansk district) on 4 May 1924. She studied piano from the age of three. She entered the Moscow Conservatory, studying with Alexander Goldenweiser and Evgeny Golubev, and graduated in 1948.

  5. Nikolai Kapustin

    Nikolai Kapustin (Russian: Николай Капустин, "Nikolaj Kapustin"; born 1937 in Gorlovka, Ukraine) is a Russian composer and pianist. Kapustin studied piano with Avrelian Rubakh (pupil of Felix Blumenfeld who also taught Simon Barere and Vladimir Horowitz) and, later, Alexander Goldenweiser at the Moscow Conservatory. During the 1950s he acquired a reputation as a jazz pianist, arranger and composer.

  6. Dudley Buck

    Dudley Buck (March 10, 1839 - October 6, 1909) was an American composer of music. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of a merchant who gave him every opportunity for cultivating his musical talents. After attending Trinity College, for four years (1858-1862) he studied at Leipzig (at the Leipzig Conservatory), Dresden and Paris. On returning to America he held the position of organist at Hartford, Chicago (1869), and Boston (1871).

  7. Elias Parish Alvars

    Eli Parish was an English harpist and composer. He changed his name first in Albert Alvars and later in Elias Parish Alvars The baptismal record found at St James’s Church, West Teignmouth, reports: "Eli, son of Joseph and Mary Ann Parish". His father, an organist, voice teacher and music handler in Teignmouth, gave him his first musical instruction. Eli gave his first concert in Totnes in 1818.

  8. Alphonse Hasselmans

    Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) was a Belgian-born French harpist, composer, and pedagogue. He composed several dozen original solos for harp (the most famous is a concert etude entitled "La Source" ("The Spring"), op. 44), transcribed for harp numerous works originally for other instruments by other composers, and edited important collections of etudes by the earlier 19th-century harpist Robert N. C. Bochsa.

  9. Gordon Crosse

    Gordon Crosse (born December 1, 1937) is an English composer and music technologist. Crosse was born in Bury, Lancashire and in 1961 graduated from Oxford University with a first class honours degree in Music. He then undertook two years of postgraduate research on early fifteenth-century music before beginning an academic career at the University of Birmingham. Subsequent employment included posts at the Universities of Essex, Cambridge and California.

  10. Arnold Krug

    Arnold Krug was born in Hamburg on October 16 1849 and died there on August 14 1904. He was a German composer and music teacher. Gustav Jenner was among his many students. He began his music studies with piano lessons from his father Diederich Krug, who was himself a pianist and composer. Later, he was sent to the Leipzig Conservatory where he studied with Carl Reinecke and then went on to Berlin, where continued with Friedrich Kiel and Eduard Franck.

    Johannes Eckhart O.P., also known as Eckhart von Hochheim and widely referred to as Meister Eckhart, was a German theologian, philosopher and mystic, born near Erfurt, in Thuringia. "Meister" is German for "Master", referring to the academic title he obtained in Paris.

    George David Aiken (August 20, 1892 - November 19, 1984) was an American politician from Vermont. He served as Governor of Vermont from 1937 to 1941 and as a U.S. Senator from 1941 to 1975. Aiken was born in Dummerston in Windham County, Vermont, and graduated from Brattleboro High School while living in Putney, Vermont in 1909. A Republican, he was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1931 and served as Speaker of the House from 1933 to 1935.
