Wilhelm Fliess (October 24, 1858 - October 13, 1928) was a German otolaryngologist who practised in Berlin. On Josef Breuer's suggestion, Fliess attended several conferences of Sigmund Freud in 1887 in Vienna, and the two soon formed a strong friendship. Through their extensive correspondence and a series of personal meetings ("congresses" as Freud described them), Fliess came to play an important part in the development of psychoanalysis. - Alfred A. Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis was an internationally known otolaryngologist, psychologist, educator and inventor. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from the Paris School of Medicine. His alternative medicine theories of hearing are known as the Tomatis method or Audio-Psycho-Phonology (APP). His philosophical and technical studies began as an effort to help professional singers in his native Nice based on his idea of hearing as the root cause of a variety of ailments. - Miguel Torga

Irving B. Goldman (1898-1975) was an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon. Dr. Goldman created and taught a renown rhinoplasty course at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York), as well as taught his course around the world. The course focus was the "Goldman Tip," a rhinoplasty technique that is still popular with surgeons today. Frédéric Justin Collet was a French pathologist and otolaryngologist. In 1894 he earned his doctorate from the University of Lyon. Later he became a professor of pathology in Lyon, and in 1927 a professor of otolaryngology. Collet is remembered for providing a description of a disorder he called "glossolaryngoscapulopharyngeal hemiplegia", which was later to be named "Collet's syndrome". Tsvi C. Nussbaum (born 1935) is a holocaust survivor, known as possibly being the boy in the Warsaw Ghetto photograph. Nussbaum's parents immigrated to what was Palestine in 1935. However, they found life too difficult there, and so returned in 1939 to Sandomierz in Poland. Nussbaum's mother and father were murdered before the Jews of the region were sent to various Nazi concentration camps. Tsvi's brother disappeared, never to be seen again. - Navin Hiranandani
