Oskar Lafontaine (born September 16, 1943 in Saarlouis-Roden) is a left-wing German politician and a leading member of the Left Party. Lafontaine's views and remarks have made him a polarizing figure in German politics; most Germans are either fond of his politics or disdain them. Some have compared Lafontaine to Edmund Stoiber; both are close to the fringes of the German political mainstream, but come from opposite ends of the political spectrum.

He attended "gymnasium" (German upper highschool) in Saarlouis, Germany in the Gymnasium am Stadtgarten and graduated in 1985. His research interests include respiratory diseases (SARS), Hepatitis C and HIV.
- Ottfried Nippold
Ottfried Nippold was a German-Swiss jurist and pacifist. Nippold was a son of Professor Friedrich Nippold of the University of Jena. He attended Gymnasium in Burgdorf and in Berne and studied law at the Universities of Berne, Halle, Tübingen and Jena. At the latter, he earned his doctorate in 1886. He became a judge in Weimar. In 1889, he was invited for three years to teach at the Law School of the Society for German Sciences in Tokyo.
