Yang Bin (楊斌) (born 1961) is a Chinese-Dutch businessman who was formerly listed as the second richest man in China by Forbes for 2001. He once held assets in the horticulture and real estate industries, owning stakes in the Euro-Asia Agricultural Holdings and Holland Village, China. His fall from grace came in 2002, when he was arrested on charges of tax evasion. He was later sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Wang Xiaoning is a Chinese dissident from Shenyang who was arrested by authorities of the People's Republic of China for publishing controversial material online. In 2000 and 2001, Wang, who was an engineer by profession, posted electronic journals in a Yahoo! group calling for democratic reform and an end to single-party rule. He was arrested in September 2002 after Yahoo! assisted Chinese authorities by providing information.

Jin Xing or Jing Xing (金星) (born 1967) is a ballerina, modern dancer, choreographer and actress from the People's Republic of China, and owner of the contemporary dance company "Shanghai Jin Xing Dance Theatre". She is the first transwoman officially recognized by the Chinese government. As a man, Jin attained the rank of Colonel in the People's Liberation Army as part of the military's dance troupe.

Zhang Ning (born 19 May 1975 in Shenyang, Liaoning province) is a female badminton player from the People's Republic of China. Zhang played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics for China. In women's singles, she defeated Marina Andrievskaya of Sweden and Kelly Morgan of Great Britain in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, Zhang beat Wang Chen of Hong Kong 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 to advance to the semifinals. There, she defeated countrywoman Zhou Mi 11-6, 11-4.

Jiang Weiping is a Chinese journalist and whistleblower, who was jailed in 2000 for violating the State Secrets Law on charges of "subversion." On January 3, 2006, Weping was released after his prison sentence, due to expire in a year, was commuted. In 1999 Jiang wrote articles for the Hong Kong magazine "Qianshao", accusing Bo Xilai, then governor of Liaoning province, of covering up corruption. Bo Xilai is now China's Trade Minister.

Han Guangsheng, emerged as a Chinese defector in Canada during July, 2005 to support a number of allegations made by Chen Yonglin. Han claims to have been in charge of Shenyang's public security and labor camps prior to his defection. The 52 year-old defector has been denied political asylum and ruled ineligible to remain in Canada, because the federal Immigration and Refugee Board found him a "willing accomplice" in prior human rights abuses. <hr>

John Rabe (November 23, 1882 - January 5, 1949) was a German businessman whose Nanjing Safety Zone sheltered some 200,000 Chinese from slaughter during the Nanjing Massacre. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Rabe pursued a career in business and went to Africa for several years. In 1908 he left for China, and between 1910 and 1938, he worked for the Siemens AG China Corporation in Shenyang, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and later Nanjing.

Kenji Doihara "Doihara Kenji", August 8, 1883 - December 23, 1948) was a Japanese officer and spy who served in northeastern China from 1913 and who became a major military commander in Japan's invasion of China over the following decades. He was one of the main plotters of the so-called Mukden Incident, the pretext for the Japanese invasion of Manchuria prior to the Second World War.

Wei Lihuang (1897-1955) was a Chinese general who served the Nationalist government throughout the Chinese Civil War and Second Sino-Japanese War as one of China's most successful military commanders. First joining the Kuomintang (KMT) faction during the early 1920s, Wei Li-huang would rise to become general after the Northern Expedition, a two year campaign to unify the China.

Chen Jitang, also spelled Chen Chi-tang, was born in Fangcheng, Guangxi, China. He joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance in 1908 and began serving in the Guangdong Army in 1920, rising from battalion to brigade commander. He was designated commander of the 11th Division within the 4th Army in 1925 and took up the garrison of Qinzhou city, Guangxi, in 1926, thus staying in the south during the Northern Expedition.

is a Japanese mangaka born in Shenyang, Liaoning, China (part of Manchuria). Chiba is known for publishing his works in both shōnen and shōjo magazines. Chiba made his professional debut in 1967 with his manga "Sabu to Chibi" while working as an assistant to his older brother, Tetsuya. In 1977, he won the 22nd Shogakukan Manga Award for his work on "Captain" and "Play Ball". Chiba committed suicide in late 1984 (at age 41) due to issues related to a bipolar disorder.
