- Tom Izzo
Tom Izzo (born January 30, 1955 in Iron Mountain, Michigan) is the men's basketball coach for Michigan State University. Under Izzo, the program has been one of the most successful in the country, having won a national championship in 2000 and sent many players to the NBA. The Spartans have reached the Final Four in four of the past eight seasons, more than any other team during that time. Izzo has won four national coach of the year awards.

Mike Valenti (born October 24, 1980) is the co-host of The Sports Inferno, a radio talk show heard weekday afternoons from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. on WXYT-AM 1270 in Detroit, Michigan. A 26-year old graduate of Michigan State University, Valenti originally hails from Troy, New York. His co-host of the Sports Inferno is Central Michigan University grad and Detroit News columnist Terry Foster.

George Melvin "Jud" Heathcote is a former college basketball coach. He was a head coach for 24 seasons at the collegiate level: five at Montana (1971-76) and 19 at Michigan State (1976-95).
- Thrasybulus
Thrasybulus was an Athenian general and democratic leader. In 411 BC, in the wake of an oligarchic coup at Athens, the pro-democracy sailors at Samos elected him as a general, making him a primary leader of the successful democratic resistance to that coup. Eric Snow (born April 24, 1973 in Canton, Ohio) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. Snow began his basketball career at Canton McKinley High School, where he played with classmate and former NBA player Michael Hawkins. Snow graduated high school in 1991, and enrolled at Michigan State University.

- Tisamenus
Tisamenus in Greek mythology, was a son of Orestes and Hermione. He succeeded his father to the thrones of Argos, Mycenae and Sparta and was later killed in the final battle with the Heracleidae. The latter were led by Aristodemus, Cresphontes, Oxylus, Temenus and sought to retake the Peloponnese as their ancestral land. Following his death the victors divided his lands among them. Cresphontes became King of Messene, Oxylus of Elis and Temenus of Argos.

- Josh Parry
Josh Parry is an American football player. He played linebacker at San José State University before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004. The Eagles converted Parry to play fullback. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks prior to the 2006 season for an undisclosed 2008 draft pick. Josh's brother Neil Parry played with his brother at SJSU, and currently provides color commentary for SJSU "Spartans" football radio broadcasts.
- Hyperanthes
Hyperanthes was a son of Darius the Great of Persia and brother to Xerxes I. He was present in the second invasion of Greece in 480 BC. According to Herodotus, he fought and died alongside his other brother Abrocomes in the battle of Thermopylae in the final phase known as the "Battle of Champions" (Tom Holland). Where the Spartans in their last stand fought feverishly against him and the Persian force over the retrieval of Leonidas' dead body.
- Mike Swain
Mike Swain is one of the most successful American judo players. He became the first American male to win the Judo World Championships when he took the gold medal in 1987. He competed in four Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 1988, and a number of World Championships. In addition to these well-known competitions, he participated in a number of tournaments that are less-known outside of the judo world, but very prestigious within it, such as the Kano Cup in 1986.
- Chionis Of Sparta
Chionis of Sparta was an athlete of ancient Greece who was most notable for his jumping records in the ancient Olympics. Records suggest that in the 656 BC Olympics Chionis jumped a then record of 7 meters and 5 centimetres. If accurate, such a record would have won Chionis the inaugural Olympic title of the modern Olympic Games in 1896 and placed him among the top eight at a further ten Olympics, up to and including the 1952 Games of Helsinki.

John Stocco (born June 14, 1983 in Richfield, Minnesota) is an American football quarterback. Stocco played football for the University of Wisconsin, starting at quarterback for the Badgers during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He was not drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft. In high school, Stocco teamed with current NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald at the Academy of Holy Angels in Minnesota.

George Blaha (born 1945 in Detroit, Michigan) has been the radio and television play-by-play voice of the Detroit Pistons since the 1976-77 NBA season. Raised in Marshalltown, Iowa and Grayling, Michigan, Blaha attended Notre Dame and received an MBA from the University of Michigan. Ralph H. Young (died January 23, 1962) was the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans football program from 1923 to 1927. During his tenure, he compiled an 18-22-1 (.451) record. He served as the school's first athletic director from 1923 to 1954. He served three terms in the Michigan Legislature, representing the East Lansing district. In 1962, he was elected to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

Dave Baldwin was the head football coach of San Jose State University from 1997-2000. During his tenure, he had three straight wins over Stanford (including their rosebowl season of 1999). In 1997, SJSU upset No. 24 Air Force, (25-22) their first win over a ranked opponent since 1990. In 2000, SJSU beat ninth-ranked TCU (27-24) ending their 12 game winning streak. Also in 2000, SJSU earned a mark of 7-5, their first winning season in eight years.

Jimmy Raye II is the current assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the NFL's Oakland Raiders. As a player, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams for the position of cornerback but was quickly traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. In college, as a quarterback, he led the Michigan State Spartans to the 1966 Rose Bowl. His son, Jimmy Raye III, currently works for the San Diego Chargers.
