  1. Louie Simmons

    Louie Simmons is a powerlifter, and strength training writer and trainer. Simmons began training in Olympic lifting at age 12. He was first exposed to powerlifting in 1966, at a meet in Dayton, Ohio. Shortly after that meet, Louie went into the Army. After basic training, he was in the infantry but instead of Vietnam, he was sent to Berlin. He got out of the Army in 1969.

  2. John Grimek

    John Grimek (June 17, 1910 - November 20, 1998) was one of the earliest great bodybuilders, and the only man ever to win the AAU Mr. America title more than once (1940 and 1941). Grimek was born on June 17, 1910 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Besides his bodybuilding exploits, he represented the United States in weightlifting at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. In 1948, at 38 years of age, Grimek defeated Steve Reeves at the NABBA Mr. Universe contest in London.

  3. Kunjarani Devi

    Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi (born March 1, 1968) is an Indian sportswoman in weightlifting. She competed in the 48 kg category towards the later part of her career, and served a six-month suspension after testing positive to anabolic steroids during 2001. She is a recipient of Arjuna award in 1990 and shared the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award with Leander Paes for the year 1996-1997. She has more than fifty international medals to her credit.

    Franco Columbu (August 7, 1941, Ollolai, Sardinia) is an Italian actor and bodybuilder. Starting out his athletic career as a boxer, Columbu progressed into the sport of powerlifting and later bodybuilding, winning the title of Mr. Olympia in 1976 and 1981.   6. Les Mills

    Leslie ("Les") Roy Mills CNZM, MBE, (born November 1, 1934 in Auckland) is a retired New Zealand athlete, who represented New Zealand at Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games over two decades. He competed in Shot Put, Discus and Weightlifting events. At the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, he achieved his best result, a gold medal in Discus. After retiring from active competition, he became a gym owner in 1968 and a successful businessman.

  7. Jeff Lacy

    Jeffrey Scott Lacy (born May 12, 1977 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is an American boxer. Currently fighting in the super middleweight boxing division at 5'9" (though some observers have noted that he looks closer to 5'8') and 168 lb, his record stands at 22 wins (17 by knockout) and one loss. His good punching power, most notably the left hook, and aggressive style created huge expectation, but he failed to realize his potential when defeated by Joe Calzaghe.

  8. Peary Rader

    Peary Rader (1909-1991) was an early bodybuilder, Olympic lifter, writer, and magazine publisher from Nebraska. Rader was born on October 17, 1909. He started lifting weights at age 12, but in 1933, he weighed just 128 pounds at a height of 5'11.5". Then he shifted his emphasis to heavy, high repetition squats, and built his bodyweight up to 210 pounds within about a year (he eventually reached 220 pounds).

  9. Nikita Koloff

    Nikita S. Koloff (born N. Scott Simpson - name legally changed to Koloff in 1988) is a former American professional wrestler who wrestled throughout the 1980s and early 1990s as "The Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff, which was a play off of the nickname of fan favorite "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes (in fact, it was Rhodes who gave him the nickname). Nikita was brought into the National Wrestling Alliance by his "Uncle" Ivan to prove Soviet superiority.

    Matthew Rush (born Gregory Grove on September 22, 1972) is an American gay pornographic actor who appears in gay pornographic films and magazines. He is also a bodybuilder and personal trainer under his real name. He has competed at the Gay Games in Amsterdam and Sydney, Australia.

  12. Earl Maynard

    Earl Maynard is a bodybuilder and professional wrestler as well as a film actor, producer and director from Barbados. Maynard won the 1964 Universe - Pro - NABBA bodybuilding competition - part of the Universe Championships, the 1965 Universe - IFBB - now the World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships and the 1978 Masters Mr. America - AAU contest. He was also the winner of Mr. Europe 1959 and Mr. England 1960 early in his career.

    Anibal Lopez is an American bodybuilder. He was born in Puerto Rico to Francisco and Francisca Lopez. His family relocated to Bronx, New York in 1954 where he attended Public School 66, Intermediate School 98 - Herman Ridder School, and Columbus High School. As a boy, Anibal was fascinated with men of great muscular power who could perform amazing feats of strength.

  14. Yaowapa Boorapolchai

    Yaowapa Boorapolchai (born September 6, 1984) is a Thai taekwondo athlete who was the bronze medalist in the women's under 49 kg event at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She started competing in 2002. In the first round of the Women's Under 49 kg event she defeated Brigitte Yague of Spain, and in the quarterfinal was defeated by Yanelis Yuliet Labrada Diaz of Cuba.

  15. Yakov Springer

    Yakov Springer (b. Poland ca. 1921; died Munich, Germany September 6, 1972) was a wrestler and a weightlifting coach and judge, but is best known as one of the victims of the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He was murdered with 10 other men who were representing Israel in the Olympics in Munich. They were murdered by Palestinian terrorists, from the PLO Black September group.

  16. Ofisa Ofisa

    Ofisa Ofisa (born April 6, 1974 in Apia, Samoa), also known as Ofisa Junior Asiata, is a Samoan Oceania and South Pacific Games Champion in weightlifting. He won four Oceania Championships, two South Pacific Games Championships (1991 and 1999). He has set numerous Oceania and South Pacific records. At one time he held 5 South Pacific records in two different weight classes.

    Louis Washkansky (1913 - 21 December 1967) was the recipient of the world's first human heart transplant. Washkansky was a Lithuanian Jew, who migrated with his family to South Africa in 1922, aged nine, and became a grocer in Cape Town. Washkansky saw active service in World War II in East and North Africa and Italy. After the war, he married his wife Ann. Washkansky was an avid sportsman. He took part in soccer, swimming, and weightlifting.

    Robert Lee Curbeam, Jr. (b. March 5, 1962) is an American astronaut and Captain in the United States Navy. Curbeam graduated from Woodlawn High School, Baltimore County, Maryland in 1980. He earned a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1984 and a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1990.

    Mark Frechette (December 4, 1947 - September 27, 1975), was an American film actor. He is best known for his lead role in the 1970 film "Zabriskie Point", directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, in which he was cast despite having no previous acting experience. He appeared in two other films made in Italy, "Many Wars Ago" ("Uomini Contro", 1970) and "La Grande Scrofa Nera" (1971).

  25. Gilbert Fuchs

    Gilbert Fuchs (1871 in Graz, Austria - 1952 in Germany) was a German figure skater and the first world champion in figure skating. In 1896, he won the first world championships in figure skating, which was held in St. Petersburg. In 1906 he recaptured this title in Munich. Relations between him and his constant rival Ulrich Salchow were strained. In 1906, Salchow did not compete in Munich, Fuchs' hometown, because he expected to be judged unfairly.

  26. Louis-Emil Eyer

    Louis-Emil Eyer (17 November 1865-2 September 1916) was a Swiss-Bulgarian sports pedagogue and public figure regarded as the founder of the sports movement in Bulgaria. Born in Homberg in the Canton of Berne, Eyer studied in Lausanne, Geneva and Neuchâtel and taught sport disciplines in Vevey. In 1894, Eyer and nine other Swiss pedagogues were invited to Bulgaria by the Minister of Education Georgi Zhivkov to lay the foundations of sports education in the country.
