    Lauren B. Alloy is a professor of psychology at Temple University recognized in the area of mood disorders. Her research focuses on cognitive, interpersonal, and biopsychosocial processes in the onset and maintenance of depression and bipolar disorder. In the late 1970s, Alloy and her longtime collaborator Lyn Abramson demonstrated that depressed individuals hold a more accurate view of their control of the social environment than do non-depressed individuals.

    Sir Robert Abbott Hadfield (born November 28, 1858, Sheffield; died September 30, 1940, Surrey) was an English metallurgist, noted for his 1882 discovery of manganese steel, one of the first steel alloys. Hadfield's father, also named Robert Hadfield, owned Hadfield's Steel Foundry in Sheffield and was one of the first manufacturers of steel castings. The younger Hadfield took over the business in 1888 and built the firm into one of the largest foundries in the world.

  5. Keith Millis

    Keith D. Millis (1915-1992) was a metallurgical engineer and inventor of ductile iron. Early in the Second World War, chromium was considered critical to the war effort and experimentation was conducted by Millis to find a substitute. He made his discovery while experimenting with molten iron and magnesium. The original intent was to find another element that would cause all the carbon in the cast iron alloy to be combined as carbide. Magnesium was a known carbide former.

  6. David J. Gingery

    David J. Gingery was an inventor, writer, and machinist, best known for his series of books on how to build machine tools. Gingery is most famous for his "Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From Scrap" series, which details how to build a reasonably complete machine shop at low cost, often from scrap metal and other items. The hobbyist starts by constructing a small foundry capable of melting silicon-aluminum and zinc alloys from recycled automotive parts.

  7. Edgar Bain

    Edgar C. Bain (September 14, 1891 - November 27, 1971) was a pioneering metallurgist and member of the National Academy of Sciences, who worked for the US Steel Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked on the alloying and heat treatment of steel; Bainite is named in his honor. His written works include "Functions of the Alloying Elements in Steel", published by ASM International.

    DJ Muffler is Konsta Mikkonen, Finnish born drum 'n bass DJ and producer, who currently also lives in London and Tallinn.     Sir William Fletcher Barrett (1844-1925) was an English physicist. He discovered Stalloy, a silicon-iron alloy used in electrical engineering. He also did research work on the divining rod, and helped found the Society for Psychical Research. Barrett was Professor of Physics at Dublin University.
