1. Aron Ralston

    Aron Lee Ralston (born October 27, 1975) is an American mountain climber who became famous in May 2003 because he was forced to amputate his lower right arm with a low-quality multitool (a dull knife) in order to free himself after his arm became trapped by a boulder.   2. Moshe Ya'Alon

    Moshe Ya'alon is a Lieutenant General (res.) on July 9, 2002, and served in that position until June 1, 2005, during which time he led the army’s effort to quell the al-Aqsa Intifada launched in September 2000. He was born in Forlì in the year 1260, northern Italy, of a wealthy family. He was not a religious man until an incident with Philip Benizi. Peregrine is said to have hit Philip, who then turned the other cheek and did not fight back.

    Jessica Long was adopted by an American couple from Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 13 months. Because of lower leg anomalies, her legs were amputated when she was 18 months old. Jessica Long was involved in many sports including gymnastics, basketball, cheerleading, ice skating, biking, trampoline, sking, and swimming. She began swimming in her grandparents’ pool before joining her first competitive team in 2002.

  5. Eddie Shore

    Edward William "Eddie" Shore (November 25, 1902 - March 16, 1985) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League. Born in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, Shore played with the Regina Capitals of the Western Canada Hockey League in 1924-25. His team finished last in the league and folded at the end of the season. Shore moved to the league champion Edmonton Eskimos in 1925-26, where he converted from forward to defense.

  7. Ali Ismail Abbas

    Ali Ismail Abbas (born 1990) is an Iraqi boy who was severely injured in a nighttime rocket attack near Baghdad during the United States invasion of Iraq in 2003. During the attack, two errant American missiles landed on his family's home, killing his parents, his brother and 13 other members of his family. Both of Ali's arms had to be amputated and third-degree burns covered at least 35 percent of his body. He was 12 years old at the time.

  8. Carlos José Castilho

    Carlos José Castilho was a legendary Brazilian football goalkeeper. He played for Fluminense from 1947 to 1964 and for Brazil. He played in four World Cups: 1950, 1954, 1958 and 1962 and was the starting goalkeeper in 1954. He entered history as a goalkeeper making seemingly impossible saves.
