    Xavier Becerra represents California's 31st District in the US House of Representatives and is Vice Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.     George Thomas Leland, better known as Mickey Leland, was a spokesman for the hungry and poor, and later became a congressman from the Texas 18th District and chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. He was a Democrat. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Leland attended Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas and obtained a bachelor's and Doctorate of Pharmacy at Texas Southern University in Houston.

    Ed Harbison of Columbus was elected to the Senate from the Columbus area's 15th District in 1992. Harbison is currently chair and spokesman for the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, which is uniquely positioned to influence most politics in Georgia. He has served as chairman of the Senate Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee. In addition, he served as chairman of the Local Assistance Grants Subcommittee to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

    Senator Tom Buford has represented the 22nd Senate District (Boyle, Fayette, Garrett, and Jessamine counties) since 1991. Kim was employed at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for 12 years.

    Congresswoman Millender-McDonald served as representative of California’s 37th Congressional District from April 16th, 1996, until she died of cancer in April 2007. As the first African American woman appointed Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration, Millender-McDonald chaired this committee during the 110th Congress. She also served on the Joint Library, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Small Business committees.
