George David Aiken (August 20, 1892 - November 19, 1984) was an American politician from Vermont. He served as Governor of Vermont from 1937 to 1941 and as a U.S. Senator from 1941 to 1975. Aiken was born in Dummerston in Windham County, Vermont, and graduated from Brattleboro High School while living in Putney, Vermont in 1909. A Republican, he was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1931 and served as Speaker of the House from 1933 to 1935.

Albert Schatz (2 February, 1920 - 17 January, 2005) was a scientist who was eventually named the co-discoverer of streptomycin, an antibiotic remedy used to treat tuberculosis and a number of other diseases. Schatz managed to isolate two strains of Actinobacteria, which could effectively cease the growth of several penicillin-resistant bacteria, on October 19 1943 in the course of his graduate work at Cook College in Rutgers University.

He had three children ; Valentine Mott Bell, Olivia Bell, and Isaac Bell III. Resided in one of New York’s cities first cooperative duplex apartment buildings; Knickerbocker. The building was designed in 1882 by Charles Clinton for Ernest Flagg.

In our first business year we grossed $38,000 in sales with three full-time staff and many great volunteers.

The co-op began as the Willimantic Buyers Club in the early 70's. Members met in the basement of St. Pauls church to order food in bulk and divide it between themselves at significant savings.
