    Norman George Lorimer Hunter (born Sydenham, England, November 23, 1899 - died Staines, February 23, 1995) was a British children's author, best known for his character Professor Branestawm. His middle name was Lorimer, the surname of a Leeds United colleague of his footballing namesake. Hunter was born in Sydenham, London. His career started as an advertising copywriter. In the 1930's Hunter was performing as a stage magician in Bournemouth.
